Jantje Hagenou-Bathoorn (29 April 1934) was a Dutch kortebaan speed skater from Donderen and later from Peize. [1] One of her earliest competitions was in 1954 and one of her first victory in 1956. [2] [3] She won many prizes. [4] While living in the province of Drenthe she also competed in Friesland; where the best skaters competed. She won several competitions in 1960 in Friesland. [5] In January 1960 she won two main competition in one weekend, winning 200 Dutch Guilders. [6] In 1961 she finished third at the provincial championships of Drenthe. [7] Also in 1962 she continued competing in Friesland. [8] [9]
She was the niece of speed skater Jantje Venekamp-Tienkamp. [10]
Kortebaanschaatsen refers to an old form of Dutch ice skating tournament that goes back to the 18th century. It is not to be confused with the modern speed skating sport known as short track speed skating. The sport is similar to harness racing and is similarly setup in two straight lanes of 160 meters.
