Sytske Annes Spijkstra with surname also written as Spykstra (born 27 January 1877) was a Dutch female kortebaan speed skater from Wartena. [1] [2]

When Spykstra was 13 years old she already competed at senior speed skating competitions for men's and women's. Together with Bouke van der Ploeg from Tietjerk and Folkert Krol from Bergum she won prizes in the winter of 1890-91. The next winter she started competing at individual competitions and started winning prizes individually. She continued winning individual prizes for several years. When she was 15 years old she won a gold brooch with two ditto earrings. The same winter she skated together with Pieter Bruinsma and won prizes among others in Sneek and Hindeloopen. [1]

When she didn't perform that good anymore individually she specialized back again in pairs competitions. She competed together with Jan Kuperus and Rinze Wester. [1]

Her father was Anne Tjerks Spijkstra and her mother Maaike Aukes Hoekstra. [3] She married Harmen Visser on 10 May 1902. She got four children, between 1903 and 1910. [4] The family Spykstra has had several good speed skaters. Sytske Spykstra also competed together with one of her brothers (Auke or Tjerk). [1]
