The Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award of the Republic of India, after the Bharat Ratna. Instituted on 2 January 1954, the award is given for "exceptional and distinguished service", without distinction of race, occupation, position, or sex. The award criteria include "service in any field including service rendered by Government servants" including doctors and scientists, but excluding those working with the public sector undertakings. As of 2020, the award has been bestowed on 314 individuals, including seventeen posthumous and twenty-one non-citizen recipients.

The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, formerly known as the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement, is India'sHighest Civilian Honour bestowed upon exceptional achievers under the age of 18. The award was instituted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India in 1996 to recognize children with exceptional abilities and outstanding status in various fields such as academics, arts, culture, design, innovation, research, social service, and sports.

Usha Chaumar is a social worker from Alwar, Rajasthan, India. She is the President of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, the non-profit arm of Sulabh International. In 2020, she received the Padma Shri honour from the Government of India for her contribution in the field of social work, particularly in raising awareness against manual scavenging.
Agus Indra Udayana is a social worker from Indonesia. In 2020, he was conferred with the Padma Shri honour by the Government of India for his contributions to the field of social work, particularly for spreading Gandhian values. Udayana has four ashrams in Bali and Lombok that follow the Gandhian principles of non-violence, humanity, and truth. He works with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to impart and share cultural associations and build dialogue.
Bharat Goenka is an industrialist from India. He is the co-founder and managing director of Tally Solutions. In 2020, he received the Padma Shri honour from the Government of India for his contribution in the field of trade and industry.
Benichandra Jamatia was a Tripuri Indian folk writer and litterateur, known for his contribution to the fields of literature and education in Tripura. He is credited with introducing the baul singing tradition of West Bengal in Kokborok language for the first time. In 2020, he was awarded the Padma Shri (2020), the fourth-highest civilian award in India. He died at his home on 14 December 2020.
