Jagdish Mitra Pahwa (1922-2001) was an Indian ophthalmologist, social worker and a specialist in Retinal Detachment and Photocoagulation who was reported to have conducted several charitable eye camps in India. Born on 4 July 1922 in Multan in the erstwhile British India, he graduated in medicine from the King Edward Medical University, Lahore. He was a 1969 elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and a recipient of the NAB Rustom Merwanji Alpaiwalla Memorial Award from the National Association for the Blind (India) in 1944. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1973.
Queenie H. C. Captain was an Indian social worker known for her contributions to the welfare of the visually impaired people in India. She was the co-founder and the president of the National Association for the Blind, the largest non governmental organization for the blind people in India, from 1961 to 1972. She also served as the vice president and the chairperson of the finance raising committee of the organization. She was one of the organizers of the World Assembly of the World Council for the Welfare of the Blind held in New Delhi in 1969 and was the leader of the Indian delegation to the Quin-quennial Conference of the World Council for the Welfare of the Blind at Rome in 1959. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1974.
Claire Marie Jeanne Vellut (1926–2013) was a Belgian born naturalised Indian leprologist, humanist and the founder of the Damien Foundation India Trust, a non profit non governmental organization engaged in providing treatment and rehabilitation services to people afflicted with leprosy and tuberculosis in India. She spent 55 years in India treating leprosy and tuberculosis patients, associating with the state and central governments or independently under the aegis of the trust she founded in 1955. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1981.
Taranath Narayan Shenoy, is a deaf and visually impaired Indian swimmer and an honoree of the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame. He is a winner of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming, having successfully completed the English Channel, Catalina Channel and the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 1990.

Lata Desai is a medical doctor from the Indian State of Gujarat who is 1980 along with her husband Dr. Anil Desai and a few friends founded the Society for Education Welfare and Action - Rural, a voluntary organization devoted to health and development activities in the tribal area of South Gujarat.
