Jeffrey de Luna (born February 14, 1984) is a Filipino professional pool player [2] from Manila. De Luna reached the semifinals of the 2019 U.S. Open Pool Championship, but would lose to eventual champion Joshua Filler of Germany.

De Luna is well known for his cue power and having one of the most powerful breaks of any player; hence, he was nicknamed "the Bull". [3] He breaks the ball with tremendous power while jumping straight up into the air. In one match against Ruslan Chinaknov, de Luna made an incredible six balls in a break, playing nine balls. [4]

Career

During the 2006 Men's World Nine-ball Championship he survived the group stages, the round of 64 and the round of 32, but was eliminated in the round of 16 by Luong Chi Dung. This performance secured him a spot in the 2007 edition of the tournament.

At the 2006 Asian Games in Qatar, de Luna made to the final of the nine-ball singles. However, he lost to his compatriot Antonio Gabica in the final and had to settle for a silver medal. In 2009, de Luna was also a runner-up to Ricky Yang in the first-ever Philippine Open Ten-ball Championship.

In 2007, de luna recorded an 11-9 victory in an all-Filipino finals over compatriot Dennis Orcollo to win the Manny Pacquiao International Nine-ball Open held at Entertainment Center Mall of Asia, Pasay City, Philippines. The tournament that featured 128 elite players field from around the world and netted P1-million total purse. [5]

In 2014, the tandem of de Luna and Jeffrey Ignacio emerged triumphant in the Manny Pacquiao International Open Doubles tournament after dismantling the top-seeded pair of Thorsten Hohmann and John Morra with a score of 11-6 in the final and taking home $40,000 in price money. [6]

In 2019, de Luna and Carlo Biado booked a spot in the final of 2019 World Cup of Pool by beating the Netherlands duo of Neils Feijen and Marc Bijsterbosch, 9–6 in the semifinal but eventually fell short in the finals against Albin Ouchan and Mario He of Austria, yielding an 11-3 decision. [6]

Also in 2019, de Luna reached the semi-finals of the 2019 U.S. Open Nine-ball Championship losing to eventual champion Joshua Filler. [1]

The WPA World Ten-ball Championship is a professional ten-ball pool tournament sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA). The event was first held in 2008 in the Philippines, followed by playings there in 2009 and 2011. After not being contested for several years, it was resurrected in 2015 by boxer Manny Pacquiao, who successfully campaigned to the WPA for the championship to be moved from Metro Manila to General Santos. An event was announced in June 2018, but was postponed until relocating to the Las Vegas Valley in 2019. The scheduled 2020 championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The most recent playings have been held in the fall of 2021 and the spring of 2022.

Roberto Gomez is a professional pocket billiards player from Zamboanga City, Philippines. Known for 9-ball, he competed in the final of both the 2007 WPA World Nine-ball Championships, and the 2007 World Cup of Pool. Gomez was the first qualifier to reach the final of the WPA World Nine-ball Championships.

The 2019 WPA World Ten-ball Championship was a professional pool tournament for the discipline of ten-ball organised by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and CueSports International. It was the fifth WPA World Ten-ball Championship; the previous championship was held in 2015. After plans for an event in both 2016 and 2018 to be held in Manila fell through, a 2019 event at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas as part of a three-year deal for the event to be played in the United States was agreed. The event was held concurrently with the Billiard Congress of America's National Ten-ball event from July 22 to 26. The event was sponsored by cue manufacturer Predator Group.

Joshua Filler is a German professional pool player from Bönen, Germany. In 2018 Filler defeated Carlo Biado 13–10 to win the 2018 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. In 2017 he was the youngest player to win the China Open, and in 2018 he also won the 10-ball European Pool Championships. Filler became WPA and Euro Tour world number 1 in 2019, and later he reached the final of the 2019 WPA World Ten-ball Championship before losing 10–7 to Ko Ping-chung.

Roland Garcia is a professional pool player from Magalang, Philippines. Garcia reached the final of the 2017 WPA World Nine-ball Championship; but lost 5-13 to Carlo Biado. Garcia had also reached the quarter-final of the China Open in 2016, and the last 32 of the world nine-ball championship in 2018.

Mario Morra is a Canadian professional pool player and former professional snooker player. He reached the tournament finals of the 1984 Canadian Professional Championship, the 2008 Canadian Nine-ball championship, and the 2010 Canadian Ten-ball championship.

Aloysius Yapp is a Singaporean professional pool player. He was the world junior champion in nine-ball in 2014 and runner-up in the 2021. In 2023, Yapp defeated David Alcaide of Spain in the final, 13-7, to win the International Open 9-Ball Championship in Norfolk Virginia, USA.

Jeffrey Ignacio is a professional Filipino pool player from Las Piñas, Philippines. He won both the U.S. Open Eight-ball bar box and the U.S. Open Ten-ball bar box Championships in 2015.

Zoren James Aranas is a Filipino professional pool player from Cavite, Philippines, nicknamed "Dodong Diamond". James is the 2019 Super Billiard Expo Champion and the 2023 World Cup of Pool champion alongside Johann Chua.

Anthony Cortes Raga is a Filipino professional pool player from Cebu, Philippines, nicknamed "The Dragon". Raga reached the final of the 2023 European Open Pool Championship, however, would lose on hill-hill 13–12 to David Alcaide of Spain.
