Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is the apex regulatory body for overall licensing and regulation of micro, small and medium enterprise finance companies in India. It is under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Finance, Government of India headquartered at Lucknow and having its offices all over the country.The SIDBI was established on April 02, 1990 by Government of India, as a wholly owned subsidiary of IDBI Bank. It was delinked from IDBI w.e.f. March 27, 2000. Its purpose is to provide refinance facilities to banks and financial institutions and engage in term lending and working capital finance to industries, and serves as the principal financial institution in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. SIDBI also coordinates the functions of institutions engaged in similar activities. It was established in 1989, through an Act of Parliament. SIDBI is one of the four All India Financial Institutions regulated and supervised by the Reserve Bank of India; other three are India Exim Bank, NABARD and NHB. But recently NHB came under government control by taking more than 51% stake. They play a statutory role in the financial markets through credit extension and refinancing operation activities and cater to the long-term financing needs of the industrial sector.

Microcredit for water supply and sanitation is the application of microcredit to provide loans to small enterprises and households in order to increase access to an improved water source and sanitation in developing countries. While most investments in water supply and sanitation infrastructure are financed by the public sector, investment levels have been insufficient to achieve universal access. Commercial credit to public utilities was limited by low tariffs and insufficient cost-recovery. Microcredits are a complementary or alternative approach to allow the poor to gain access to water supply and sanitation.

SYPO focuses on microfinance and SME financing in rural areas. The NGO has confined its operations to the former Mukono District. SYPO works with around fifteen volunteers in the Netherlands, and works with paid employees and partner projects Uganda. The core focus of SYPO is microfinance, through its Ugandan subsidiary SYPO Uganda Ltd. The main achievement of SYPO has been to develop a business model to reach women in very remote areas with low-cost business loans, relying on "lean" principles, mobile money and online technology systems. SYPO's Director is Duko Hopman, supervised by a board which is chaired by Ger van der Bruggen.

James Mulwana, was a Ugandan businessman, entrepreneur, and industrialist. He was the Group chairman and chief executive officer of the Mulwana Group of Companies, a diverse business conglomerate with interests in dairy farming, plastics, manufacturing, and real estate. From 1992 until his death in 2013, Mulwana served as a non-executive director on the board of directors of Standard Chartered Uganda, the second-largest commercial bank in the country, by assets. From 1998 until 2013, he served as the chairman of that board. At the time of his death, he was listed as one of the wealthiest individuals in Uganda.
Herman Kizito Kasekende is a Ugandan businessman, economist, and bank executive. He is the managing director and chief executive officer of Stanchart Zambia, effective February 2017. Prior to that, from 22 July 2012 until 20 February 2017, he was the managing director and chief executive officer of Stanchart Uganda, the second-largest commercial bank in the country by assets, which totaled nearly US$965 million in December 2012.

Barbara Mulwana is a Ugandan electrical engineer and computer scientist, who serves as the chairperson of the Uganda Manufacturers' Association. In May 2017, she replaced Amos Nzeyi, who retired after two consecutive terms. She also serves as the executive director of "Nice House of Plastics", a member company of the Mulwana Group of Companies.
