The foreign relations of New Zealand are oriented chiefly toward developed democratic nations and emerging Pacific Island economies. Until the late 20th century,New Zealand aligned itself strongly with the United Kingdom and had few bilateral relationships with other countries. From the latter half of the 20th century,Australia has been New Zealand's most important cultural,economic and military partner. Today,the country participates in several multilateral political organisations,including Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation,the Pacific Community,and the Pacific Islands Forum. New Zealand has been described as an emerging power;however,such a claim needs to be considered in the context of its medium-sized economy and limited military capability. The country's major political parties have generally agreed on the broad outlines of foreign policy,and the government has been active in promoting free trade,nuclear disarmament,and arms control.

Relations between Portugal and Thailand date as far as the 16th century. Portugal was the first European nation to make contact with the Ayutthaya Kingdom,in 1511. The Portuguese became dominant foreign traders,and established a presence in the capital. Portuguese traders introduced firearms as well as New-World goods from the Columbian Exchange,influencing Thai cuisine,language and culture. Although Portugal's overseas influence gradually declined from the 17th century,it maintained ties with Siam. The Portuguese Embassy in Bangkok,established in 1820,is the oldest diplomatic mission in the country. In contrast to other European powers,against whose colonial aspirations Siam struggled during the 19th century,Siam's relationship with Portugal was largely friendly. Both countries elevated their missions to embassy status in 1964,and Thailand established a resident embassy in Lisbon in 1981. Today,the two countries share a small amount of trade,tourism and cultural activities.
Miss Grand Thailand is an annual Thai beauty pageant that began in 2013 to select a representative for Miss Grand International. The pageant has been owned by Nawat Itsaragrisil since its inception and was originally broadcast on Channel 7 from 2013 – 2019. In 2020 it moved to One 31,then only on the social media livestream since 2022.

Don Higgins is a New Zealand public servant and diplomat who was appointed Administrator of Tokelau in June 2022. Higgins previously served as High Commissioner of New Zealand to the Solomon Islands,and from 2014 to 2016 as High Commissioner to Kiribati.
