Cricket was introduced to Sri Lanka in the first quarter of the 19th century, following colonisation of the island by the British. The earliest known match was recorded in 1832 and the earliest first-class one in 1926. The national team has played Test cricket from 1982. The national team has achieved international success by winning the 1996 Cricket World Cup and the 2014 ICC World Twenty20. Cricket is played nationwide with Test venues in Colombo, Galle, Kandy and Moratuwa. The country's most notable players include Aravinda de Silva, Arjuna Ranatunga, Rangana Herath, Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene, Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumar Sangakkara and Chaminda Vaas. The Major League Tournament is the main domestic first-class cricket competition in Sri Lanka. It was established in 1938 and has existed under a number of different names. Matches before the 1988–89 season are not considered first-class. Relaunched as the Lakspray Trophy in 1988–89, it was renamed as the P. Saravanamuttu Trophy in 1990–91 and as the Premier Championship in 1998–99. There was a change of format in 2015–16 when it became the Premier League Tournament which was split into Tiers A and B the following year.

He was part of Sri Lanka's squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He is an old boy of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala.
Sachith Shanaka Pathirana, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer, who played for the national team and domestically in first-class, List A and Twenty20 matches. Pathirana was a bowling all-rounder who bowled slow left-arm orthodox spin and left handed lower-middle order batsman. Presently he serves as the spin bowling coach of the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team.
Pasqual Handi Kamindu Dilanka Mendis, popularly as Kamindu Mendis, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team, and for Colombo Cricket Club in domestic cricket. He is an ambidextrous bowler and has bowled both right and left-arm deliveries during the same over. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in October 2018.
Downdegedara Asela Sampath Gunaratne, commonly known as Asela Gunaratne is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, who played all forms of the game for Sri Lanka. Gunaratne is an aggressive right-handed batsman who occasionally bowls part-time medium pace. He is currently serving in the Sri Lanka Army as a Warrant officer attached to the 6th Field Regiment, Sri Lanka Artillery. He is a past pupil of Sri Rahula College, Kandy. In November 2017, he won four awards at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards ceremony, including two awards for best all-rounder.
Pramod Madushan Liyanagamage is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who currently plays Twenty20 internationals for the national team. He is a past pupil of Theraputta National School, Hambantota.
Jehan Keeth Cion Daniel is a Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for Sri Lanka U19's side. He also represented the national U19 side in the 2016 U19 World Cup.
Koralegedera Nadeeja Ashen Bandara, known as Ashen Bandara, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays limited over internationals for Sri Lanka. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in March 2021.

Perumapperuma Arachchige Kaveesha Praveen Jayawickrama, normally known as Praveen Jayawickrama, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team in all three formats. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in April 2021. He had his education in St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa. and Holy Cross College, Kaluthara.
Kandy Customs Sports Club is a first-class cricket team based in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Founded in 2019, they were one of the 24 teams to take part in the 2018–19 SLC Twenty20 Tournament, starting on 15 February 2019. In their opening match of the competition, they lost to Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club by 65 runs. In March 2019, the team joined the Premier Limited Overs Tournament, a List A competition, but they were eliminated at the group stage.
The 2019–20 Invitation Limited Over Tournament was a List A cricket competition that took place in Sri Lanka. It ran from 14 to 31 December 2019, with twenty-five teams taking part. It was the first edition of the Invitation Limited Over Tournament, replacing the Premier Limited Overs Tournament, after Sri Lanka Cricket failed to approve the latter due to delays in their domestic cricket structure. Sinhalese Sports Club won the last edition of the Premier Limited Overs Tournament.
Lamahewage Nipun Malinga is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He made his List A debut on 14 December 2019, for Colts Cricket Club in the 2019–20 Invitation Limited Over Tournament. Prior to his List A debut, he was named in Sri Lanka's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his first-class debut on 7 February 2020, for Colts Cricket Club in the 2019–20 Premier League Tournament. He made his Twenty20 debut on 6 March 2021, for Colts Cricket Club in the 2020–21 SLC Twenty20 Tournament.

The 2019–20 Premier League Tournament Tier B is the second division of the 32nd season of first-class cricket in Sri Lanka's Premier Trophy. The tournament started on 31 January and was originally scheduled to conclude on 11 April 2020.
