The Karnataka Legislative Assembly election of 1994 took place in 2 phases on November 26 and December 1, 1994 in all the 224 legislative assembly constituencies in Karnataka, India. The Janata Dal emerged victorious winning 115 seats. [1]
Karnataka is a state in the south western region of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act. Originally known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. The state corresponds to the Carnatic region. The capital and largest city is Bangalore (Bengaluru).

Janata Dal was an Indian political party which was formed through the merger of Janata Party factions, the Lok Dal, Indian National Congress (Jagjivan), and the Jan Morcha united on 11 October 1988 on the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan under the leadership of V. P. Singh.

Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda is an Indian politician who served as the 11th Prime Minister of India from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997. He was previously the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996.

Halahalli Shreekantha Shetti Mahadeva Prasad was an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka and five-time Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Gundlupet constituency of the Chamarajanagar district. At the time of his death in January 2017, he was the incumbent state minister for Cooperation and Sugar in the Government of Karnataka led by Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister.

Later, Janata Party leader Ramakrishna Hegde formed the first non-Congress government in Karnataka with the support of BJP and other smaller parties.

Gundlupet is one of the 244 electoral constituencies that form the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in the south-Indian state of Karnataka. The constituency was formed in 1957 after Mysore State was reorganized as the result of States Reorganisation Act, 1956. As of 2016, thirteen elections have been held in the constituency for electing the Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly and only three candidates have been elected. While K. S. Nagarathanamma won the first election of 1957, she went on to be elected six more times. H. K. Shivarudrappa won in 1978 and since 1994 H. S. Mahadeva Prasad has won the seat five times consecutively. Following Mahadeva Prasad's death on 3 January 2017. The by election of Gundlupet Vidhan Sabha constituency in 2017 was won by M. C. Mohan Kumari Urf Geetha.
K. S. Nagarathanamma was an Indian politician from the southern state of Karnataka. She was elected seven times from the Gundlupet constituency to be member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. She was the first female speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 1972 to 1978, the erstwhile Mysore Legislative Assembly.
