Gangubai Hangal Indian Hindustani classical vocalist

Gangubai Hangal was an Indian singer of the khayal genre of Hindustani classical music from Karnataka, who was known for her deep and powerful voice. Hangal belonged to the Kirana gharana.

Jaggesh Indian actor and politician (born 1963)

Jaggesh is an Indian politician, actor, director and producer, who mainly works in the Kannada film industry. Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa, often referred to by his initials BSY, is an Indian statesman who served as the 19th Chief Minister of Karnataka and currently serving as the Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Shikaripura constituency. He is also the only politician so far in Karnataka to have served four times as Chief Minister and three times as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is an MLA from Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district, from where he has been elected eight times. He is popularly referred to as Raja Huli by the media and his followers.

Shivakumara Swami Indian saint

Shivakumara Swami was an Indian supercentenarian, humanitarian, spiritual leader and educator. He was a Veerashaiva Lingayat religious figure, he joined the Siddaganga Matha in 1930 Karnataka and became head seer from 1941. He also founded the Sri Siddaganga Education Society. Described as the most esteemed adherent of Lingayatism(Veerashaivism), he was referred to as Nadedaaduva Devaru - ನಡೆದಾಡುವ ದೇವರು in the state.

Isha Foundation Spiritual organisation founded by Jaggi Vasudev

Isha Foundation is a non-profit, spiritual organisation founded in 1992 near Coimbatore, India, by Jaggi Vasudev. It hosts the Isha Yoga Centre, which offers yoga programs under the name Isha Yoga. The foundation is run "almost entirely" by volunteers. The word isha means "the formless divine".

Nagaraju Shiva Puttaswamy known by his screen name Shiva Rajkumar, is an Indian film actor, producer and television presenter, predominantly works in Kannada cinema. He is the eldest son of Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar. In a career spanning over three decades, Shiva has worked in over 120 films. Sports in Karnataka

Cricket is by far the most popular sport in Karnataka with International cricket matches attracting a sizeable number of spectators who are willing to pay more than the standard ticket price to get a chance to watch the match. The sports related infrastructure is mainly concentrated in Bangalore which also played host to the 4th National Games of India in the year 1997. Bangalore is also the location of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) which is the premier sports institute in the country. Karnataka is sometimes referred to as the cradle of Indian swimming because of high standards in swimming compared to other states.

The Rajyotsava Prashasti or Rajyotsava Awards, the second highest civilian honor of the Karnataka state of India are conferred annually by the Karnataka Government on the occasion of the establishment of the state on 1 November celebrated as the Kannada Rajyotsava.

The Pampa Award is a literary award in the Indian state of Karnataka. The award was established in 1987 by the government of Karnataka. It is the highest literary honor conferred by the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka State, and recognises works written in the Kannada language.

Puttaraj Gawai Indian musician

PanditPuttaraj Gawai was an Indian musician in the Hindustani classical tradition, a scholar who authored more than 80 books in Kannada, Sanskrit and Hindi, a music teacher and a social servant. A member of the Gwalior Gharana (school), he is renowned for his ability to play many instruments such as the veena, the tabla, mridangam, violin etc., as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music (bhajans) vachanas.A famous vocalist both in Hindustani and Carnatic Music. He is the recipient of the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, awarded in 2008.

Puttur Narasimha Nayak is a Kannada and Konkani singer and vocalist from Karnataka. He sings devotional songs, chiefly Haridasa compositions, and Carnatic classical music. To his credit, he has rendered in Kannada, mainly devotional songs and kirthanas by Purandara Dasa, Kanaka Dasa and has given many public concerts all over the world. His "Pavamana Jagada Prana" album was extremely popular.

The Nrupatunga Award is an award for excellence in Kannada literature in the Indian state of Karnataka. The award was instituted by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat and is sponsored by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). Instituted in honor of the Rashtrakuta King Nrupatunga Amoghavarsha I, the award carries a purse of ₹700,001. King Nrupatunga finds an important place in the history of India in general and Karnataka in particular for his patronage and contribution to the Kannada language in the 9th century.
