Description
Keckiella lemmonii is a small shrub with long, narrow, mostly unbranched stems reaching maximum heights near 1.5 meters.
Oval-shaped, slightly toothed green leaves are arranged oppositely along the stems. Each leaf is up to about 6 centimeters long.
The flower is dull purple and streaked with purple-brown. Pointed lobes curl away from the mouth of the flower, revealing a hairy yellow sterile stamen known as a staminode. The flower is up to 2 centimeters in length.
Keckiella is a genus of plants in the plantain family. It includes several species of plants known commonly as keckiellas. A few species may be called beardtongues or penstemons because some keckiellas once belonged to genus Penstemon. Keckiellas are native to the American southwest, especially California. They bloom in attractive snapdragon-like flowers. Genus Keckiella was named after the American botanist David D. Keck.

The petals at the tip are purplish or yellowish, also depending on subspecies. The fruit is a flat, straight silique which may be over 11 centimeters long.
