Kim Bullard (born May 6, 1955) is an American keyboardist, songwriter, record producer, and film composer. He has been making music since the 1970s and has performed extensively as a keyboard player with musical acts such as Elton John [1] and Crosby, Stills, & Nash.
As a recording studio session player he has played piano, keyboards, and synthesizer with recording artists Yes, Santana, Kenny Loggins, Heart, Belinda Carlisle, The Doobie Brothers, Tori Amos, [2] Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood among numerous others.
Bullard was a longstanding band member of the band Poco, and is currently a member of the Elton John Band.
Bullard was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, where he began playing piano at five years old. He attributes much of his success as a pianist to his mother's support, and his desire to learn piano.
Bullard moved to Los Angeles, California in 1973 and began performing with various musicians, which led to him being hired by French recording artist Veronique Sanson as her keyboard player and music director. Bullard had formed a band in Los Angeles which he brought with him to France to perform and record with Sanson.[ citation needed ] He lived in France from 1975 to 1976 during which time he met Veronique's husband, Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills, & Nash who would later offer Kim a touring position with Crosby, Stills, & Nash in 1977 as a keyboard player, which he accepted. Kim toured with CSN from 1977 to 1979. [3]
Bullard joined Poco in December 1978 just as Legend was being released, performing keyboards and backing vocals with the group.
During the first half of the 1980s, the group released five more albums which Bullard played keyboards and sang on, these albums were, Under the Gun (1980), Blue And Gray (1981), Cowboys & Englishmen (1982), Ghost Town (1982) and Inamorata (1984). Bullard toured extensively with the band from 1978 to 1983. Poco's album, Cowboys & Englishmen was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1983. [4]
Bullard left Poco to rejoin Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1983. [5] [6] [7]
Bullard began working with his daughter, Katy Rose on vocals and songwriting in the studio was she was just twelve years old. By the time Rose was sixteen years old, he produced her album, Because I Can for V2 Records, which was released on January 27, 2004, along with "Overdrive", her first single from the album. "Overdrive" also appears on the Mean Girls soundtrack. "Lemon" is featured on the Thirteen soundtrack. Both songs are featured on Because I Can. [8] [9]
Through Bullard's session work in Los Angeles, he recorded and toured with people within the Elton John music community. When keyboard player, Guy Babylon died, Bullard was asked to become the keyboardist for the Elton John Band. Kim's first performance as a member of the Elton John Band took place on October 7, 2009, in Moscow. [10] [11] [12]

Buffalo Springfield was a rock band formed in Los Angeles by Canadian musicians Neil Young, Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin and American musicians Stephen Stills and Richie Furay. The group, widely known for the song "For What It's Worth", released three albums and several singles from 1966 to 1968. Their music combined elements of folk music and country music with influences from the British Invasion and psychedelic rock. Like contemporary band the Byrds, they were key to the early development of folk rock. The band took their name from a steamroller parked outside their house.
Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) was a folk-rock supergroup comprising American singer-songwriters David Crosby and Stephen Stills and English singer-songwriter Graham Nash. When joined by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young, they were known as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY). They are noted for their intricate vocal harmonies and lasting influence on American music and culture, their political activism and their tumultuous relationships.
Stephen Arthur Stills is an American musician, singer, and songwriter best known for his work with Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Manassas. As both a solo act and member of three successful bands, Stills has combined record sales of over 35 million albums. He was ranked number 28 in Rolling Stone's 2003 list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and number 47 in the 2011 list. Stills became the first person to be inducted twice on the same night into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. According to Neil Young, "Stephen is a genius".
David Van Cortlandt Crosby was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He first found fame as a member of the Byrds, with whom he helped pioneer the genres of folk rock and psychedelia in the mid-1960s, and later as part of the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash, who helped popularize the California sound of the 1970s. In addition to his music, Crosby was known for his outspoken personality, politics, and personal troubles; he was sometimes depicted as emblematic of the counterculture of the 1960s.
Poco was an American country rock band originally formed in 1968 after the demise of Buffalo Springfield. Guitarists Richie Furay and Jim Messina, former members of Buffalo Springfield, were joined by multi-instrumentalist Rusty Young, bassist Randy Meisner and drummer George Grantham. Meisner quit the band while they were recording their first album, Pickin' Up the Pieces, though his bass and backing vocal parts were kept in the final mix. He was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit in 1969, and Messina left in 1970 to be replaced by Paul Cotton. The line-up would change numerous times over the next several decades, with Rusty Young being the only constant member. A reunion of the founding members occurred in the late 1980s-early 1990s, and the band continued in some form through 2021, though they retired from active touring in 2013, with Young citing health concerns as the primary cause of his retirement. Young died from a heart attack in April 2021.
Paul Melvyn Carrack is an English singer, musician, songwriter and composer who has recorded as both a solo artist and as a member of several popular bands. The BBC dubbed Carrack "The Man with the Golden Voice", while Record Collector remarked: "If vocal talent equalled financial success, Paul Carrack would be a bigger name than legends such as Phil Collins or Elton John."
Kathryn Rosemary Bullard, known professionally as Katy Rose, is an American singer-songwriter, actress and producer. Rose released two studio albums, Because I Can and Candy Eyed. Since her last album, Rose has released eight independent singles.
Because I Can is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Katy Rose. It was released on January 27, 2004, by V2 Records. Initially a creative outlet, Rose signed with the label in 2001 after several music executives took notice of her songwriting. Rose co-wrote the album with her father Kim Bullard, with additional songwriting from Stuart Mathis, Holly Mathis, and River Jones. A pop rock album, Because I Can focuses on themes of depression, rebellion, and innocence.
Timothy Bruce Schmit is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He has performed as the bassist and vocalist for Poco and the Eagles, having replaced Randy Meisner in both cases. Schmit has also worked for decades as a session musician and solo artist. In 1998, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Eagles.
James O. "Donnie" Dacus is an American guitarist, vocalist, actor, songwriter, and co-producer. He has been a member of the rock bands Chicago and Badfinger.
Manassas was an American rock supergroup formed by Stephen Stills in 1971. It was used primarily for Stills' music, the band releasing two studio albums before disbanding in October 1973. They released a 1972 self titled debut and a second album titled Down the Road in 1973.
The Elton John Band is the band that backs singer, composer and pianist Elton John on both studio and live recordings. The band has gone through several lineup changes, but Nigel Olsson, Davey Johnstone, and Ray Cooper have been members since 1969, 1971 and 1973 respectively. The various lineups of the band have consisted of both British, American, and European musicians. The band is often not recognised as a formal entity, and is instead referred to simply as the Elton John Band.
Michael Kelly Finnigan was an American keyboard player and vocalist, his speciality being the B3 Hammond organ. Working primarily as a freelance studio musician and touring player, he played with a wide variety of musicians in pop, rock, blues and jazz.
CPR was a jazz-rock band consisting of singer-songwriter David Crosby, session guitarist Jeff Pevar, and Crosby's son, keyboardist James Raymond.
Cowboys & Englishmen is the fourteenth studio album by the American country rock band Poco. The Young-penned "Feudin'" was nominated for a Grammy in 1982 for Best Country Instrumental Performance. Largely made up of cover songs the album was Poco's last for MCA and reflected the fact that it was a contractual obligation album. When ABC Records was sold to MCA the new label A&R department showed little effort in promoting the band and, as a result, the band fielded offers from other labels once their contract was up and signed with Atlantic Records for their next two albums Ghost Town and Inamorata.
Ghost Town is the fifteenth studio album by the country rock band Poco, released September 20, 1982. The Atlantic Records label debut of Poco, Ghost Town was the final album by Poco to feature the group lineup who had played on Poco's 1978 breakout album Legend, as the 1984 Poco album release Inamorata would not feature Charlie Harrison.
Barnstorm was the power trio created by Joe Walsh in Colorado after he left the James Gang. The original members of the group were Walsh, Joe Vitale and Kenny Passarelli (bass). Walsh and Vitale had previously played together in an Akron-based band called The Measles before Walsh joined the James Gang. All of the members contributed lead vocals and songs, although Walsh was the principal singer and songwriter. Later, the group added keyboardists Rocke Grace and Tommy Stephenson. Having two keyboardists permitted Barnstorm to play the complex arrangements live that it was creating through multitracking in the studio or through the use of session musicians such as Paul Harris (piano) and Joe Lala (percussion).
These tours were the third tours as the trio of Crosby, Stills & Nash, without Neil Young. They were in support of the 1982 album Daylight Again, and the 1983 live album Allies.
