Elections in the 2020s

After the death of the previous MP of this constituency A. K. M. Shahjahan Kamal, new by-elections were taken on the 5th of November 2023. [2] However, the Bangladesh Election Commission has decided to cancel the results of the election after a video went viral online of a former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader(Awami League's student wing) is seen stamping the "boat" symbol of Awami League in 43 ballot papers in 57 seconds. [3]

It is bordered by Chandpur to the north, Bhola and Noakhali districts to the south, Noakhali to the east, and Barisal and Bhola districts to the west. Lakshmipur was part of Noakhali until 15 February 1984, when the western part of Noakhali was reorganised from Lakshmipur subdivision into Lakshmipur district to improve administrative efficiency.

A. K. M. Shahjahan Kamal was a Bangladeshi politician. He was a parliament member of Jatiya Sangsad and once Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism. In the 2014 Bangladeshi general election he was elected from the Lakshmipur-3 seat. He was district director of Lakshmipur district council.

Shahjahan Mia was a Bangladesh Awami League politician. He was a Jatiya Sangsad member from Patuakhali-1 constituency. He served as the state minister of religious affairs in the second Sheikh Hasina administration. He served as president of the Patuakhali Zilla Awami League until December 2019.

Shamsur Rahman Khan Shahjahan was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the former Jatiya Sangsad member from Tangail-3 constituency.
