Leucodecton coppinsii is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling) lichen in the family Graphidaceae. It is found in lowland forests of Sarawak, Malaysia.

Taxonomy

The lichen was formally described as a new species in 2002 by Thai lichenologist Natsurang Homchantara. The type specimen was collected from Gunung Mulu National Park (Miri Division), where it grows on riverside trees at low elevations. It is only known to occur at the type locality. [2] The specific epithet honours Brian J. Coppins, who collected the type, and co-described several new species with her. The lichen was originally classified in the genus Myriotrema . [2] Gothamie Weerakoon, Robert Lücking, and H. Thorsten Lumbsch proposed a transfer to Leucodecton in 2014. [3]

Description

The lichen has an olivaceous thallus with a somewhat minutely warted (verruculose) texture. The cortex is not well developed, and the algal layer (the photobiont) is scattered amongst the hyphae of the medulla. The apothecia are numerous throughout the thallus surface; they occur solitarily, and are 0.17–0.2 mm in diameter with a round pore. The ascospores are thin walled, shaped like narrow ellipsoids, colourless, and number eight per ascus. They measure 11–17 by 5.5–8.5  μm. Leucodecton coppinsii contains both stictic and constictic acids. [2]

Astrochapsa is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the subfamily Graphidoideae of the family Graphidaceae. It has 28 species. The genus was circumscribed by Sittiporn Parnmen, Robert Lücking, and H. Thorsten Lumbsch in 2012, with Astrochapsa astroidea assigned as the type species. It was segregated from the genus Chapsa, from which it differs in having a more frequently densely corticate thallus, an apothecial margin that is mostly recurved, and the almost exclusively subdistoseptate, non-amyloid ascospores.

Acanthothecis aurantiacodiscus is a species of corticolous lichen in the family Graphidaceae. Found in Sri Lanka, it was formally described as a new species in 2014 by lichenologists Gothamie Weerakoon, Robert Lücking, and Helge Thorsten Lumbsch. The type specimen was collected from the Kabaragala Tea Estate in Central Province at an altitude of 1,160 m (3,810 ft); here it was growing in semi-exposed, disturbed vegetation. It is only known to occur at the type locality. The specific epithet aurantiacodiscus refers to the orange-coloured disc of the ascomata. Acanthothecis aurantiacodiscus contains the secondary compound norstictic acid. It has relatively large muriform ascospores, measuring 45–50 by 12–15 μm. These last two features distinguish it from most other Acanthothecis species.

Found in Sri Lanka, it was formally described as a new species in 2014 by lichenologists Gothamie Weerakoon, Robert Lücking, and Helge Thorsten Lumbsch. Found in Sri Lanka, it was formally described as a new species in 2014 by lichenologists Gothamie Weerakoon, Robert Lücking, and Helge Thorsten Lumbsch. The type specimen was collected from the Maussakanda Tea Estate at an altitude of 1,074 m (3,524 ft). The lichen, which has been recorded from several locations in the Central Province, grows in semi-exposed, disturbed areas at high elevations. The specific epithet canescens refers to the grey-coloured cover of the thallus.

The type specimen was collected from the Kikiliyamana Tea Estate at an altitude of 1,280 m (4,200 ft). The lichen, which is known to occur only at the type locality, grows in disturbed vegetation. The specific epithet fuscomarginatum refers to the rims of the ascomata pores, which are typically brown in colour. Leucodecton fuscomarginatum has a shiny, smooth, light greenish to yellowish brown thallus measuring 50–100 μm thick with a thin cortex. The type specimen was collected from a high-elevation tea estate in Matale at an altitude of 1,360 m (4,460 ft). The lichen is only known to occur at the type locality and in the Sabaragamuwa Mountain Range. The specific epithet raveniana honours botanist and environmentalist Peter H. Rhabdodiscus isidiatus is a species of corticolous lichen in the family Graphidaceae. Found in Sri Lanka, it was formally described as a new species in 2014 by lichenologists Gothamie Weerakoon, Robert Lücking, and Helge Thorsten Lumbsch. The type specimen was collected from the Elkaduwa Plantation in Matale at an altitude of 915 m (3,002 ft). The lichen is only known to occur at the type locality, which is a patch of mid-elevation, disturbed montane forest. The specific epithet isidiatus refers to the presence of isidia on the thallus. Rhabdodiscus isidiatus has a cream-colored to white, smooth to uneven thallus up to 5 cm (2 in) in diameter. The ascomata are rounded and prominent, measuring 0.7–1.0 mm in diameter with a 0.3–0.5 mm wide pore and a light brown rim. Henricus (Harrie) Johannes Maria Sipman is a Dutch lichenologist. He specialises in tropical and subtropical lichens, and has authored or co-authored more than 250 scientific publications. He was the curator of the lichen herbarium at the Berlin Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum from 1983 until his retirement in 2010.
