Senegal at the Olympics

Senegal has sent athletes to all Summer Olympic Games held since 1964. Unlike most surrounding nations, Senegal has never missed any Summer Olympics since its independence. Only once has the country won an Olympic medal: Amadou Dia Ba, who won a silver medal in the men's 400 metre hurdles in 1988. However, Abdoulaye Seye, representing France, won a bronze medal in the 200 metres in 1960, just two months after the short lived Mali Federation gained independence and a few days after Senegal seceded from the federation.

The 2010 Trophée des champions was the 15th edition of the French supercup. The match was played, for the second consecutive season, on international soil at the Stade 7 Novembre in Rades, Tunis, Tunisia. The match was televised live on M6 and throughout 53 countries in the world.

Olympique de Marseille had a disappointing season, with three managers passing by en route to a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1 and two premature domestic cup exits. With striker Didier Drogba being sold to Chelsea, and replacements Habib Bamogo and Péguy Luyindula not performing at a similar level, the goal-scoring went dry, but in spite of scoring two points less than the previous season, l'OM finished two positions above the previous season.

Olympique de Marseille extended their titleless run to 15 years – but had a decent season, where they qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the second year running, and won away from home in the 2007–08 tournament at Anfield against 2007 finalists Liverpool, but a 4-0 defeat at Stade Vélodrome in the last round knocked l'OM out of the tournament. Having sold Franck Ribéry to Bayern Munich for around 30 million euros, the stage was set for Marseille to push the boundaries financially in the coming seasons, with investments in the playing squad long overdue for a club that had been known as a club selling players expensively rather than buying.
