The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). As of 19 February 2022, 50 players have captained their team in at least one match. [1]

Notable captains

Mashrafe Mortaza, the former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team, [2] has played the most matches as a captain, having led all 86 matches in which he has played. While Mosharraf Hossain, Shoaib Malik and Tom Abell are tied for the best win–loss percentage in the BPL as a captain, each with 100%, all have only captained for at most three matches. Of those who have captained for at least 10 matches, Imrul Kayes has the best win–loss percentage in the BPL, with a win–loss percentage of 71.42% from 28 matches. Mortaza leads in number of matches won as a captain with 54 wins. Of those who have captained at least 10 matches, Mosaddek Hossain has the worst win–loss percentage of 15.38% from 13 matches. Mahmudullah has lost the most matches with 42 losses.

Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Tamim Iqbal, Alok Kapali, Mortaza, Nafees, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Misbah-ul-Haq, Kayes, Malik, Mohammad Nabi, Mehidy Hasan, Naeem Islam and Mosaddek are the only players who have captained two or more teams. Rahim has captained different teams every season and is the only captain to have led seven teams in BPL which are Duronto Rajshahi, Sylhet Royals, Sylhet Super Stars, Barisal Bulls, Rajshahi Kings, Chittagong Vikings and Khulna Tigers. [1] Peter Trego has captained his team for the most matches without registering a win; he led his team in five matches which resulted in five losses.

Of the 50 players who have played at least one match as a captain, 22 of them are from Bangladesh. Of the 28 others, five each are from England and Sri Lanka, four each are from Australia, Pakistan and West Indies, three from New Zealand and one each from Afghanistan, South Africa and Zimbabwe. He is the first Bangladeshi to score a World Cup hundred. Mahmudullah started his career as a bowler and then converted into a batsman who could bowl off-breaks.

The Durdanto Dhaka is a franchise cricket team that plays in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), representing the country's Dhaka Division.

The players auction for the 2012 Bangladesh Premier League was held on 19 January 2012 at the Hotel Radisson, Dhaka. Each franchise can sign a total of 10 local players and 8 foreign players, and can play up to 5 foreign players in each match. Each franchise will also have one domestic icon player in their team. Players were allowed to set their base price between $20,000 to $100,000.

The English cricket team toured Bangladesh in October 2016 to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs), two Test matches and three tour matches. A terrorist attack in Dhaka four months before the tour started raised concerns about team safety. This led to two members of the England team, regular one-day captain Eoin Morgan and opener Alex Hales, to withdraw from selection.

The Bangladesh Premier League 2017, also known as BPL Season 5 or AKS BPL 2017 Powered by Shah Cement, was the fifth season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the top level professional Twenty20 cricket franchise league in Bangladesh. The competition was organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and features seven teams from seven different cities. The season began on 4 November, and ended on 12 December 2017, with the defending champion, Dhaka Dynamites played against newbies Sylhet Sixers in the first game at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The West Indies cricket team toured Bangladesh in November and December 2018 to play two Tests, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. It was the West Indies first full tour of Bangladesh since December 2012. The fixtures were confirmed in July 2018, with the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium scheduled to host its first ODI match. During the third ODI, it hosted its first ODI match.

The Bangladesh national cricket team has appeared in each Cricket World Cup since their first appearance at the 1999 Cricket World Cup as an associate team which was mainly held in England. Bangladesh's highest achievements in World Cup are reaching the Super Eight stage in the 2007 Cricket World Cup and the Quarter-Final of the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2020–21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup</span> Cricket tournament

The 2020–21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup was a Twenty20 cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. It was played by five teams, during November and December 2020. In November 2020, more than 100 players began to undertake fitness tests, ahead of a players' draft for the tournament. The players' draft took place on 12 November 2020, with the tournament starting in the third week of November. Two days later, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the full schedule for the tournament.

The 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League players draft took place in 17 November 2017.

The Zimbabwe cricket team toured Bangladesh in February and March 2020 to play one Test match, three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. On 26 January 2020, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the itinerary for the tour. It was the first time that a tour between the two sides featured a one-off Test match. Zimbabwe last toured Bangladesh in October and November 2018, and last won a series in the country during their tour in November 2001. On 9 February, the BCB moved the three ODI matches from Chittagong to the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, to give the venue more exposure and international attention. The one-off Test match was the 100th international match to be played between the two sides.

Fortune Barishal is a franchise cricket team that plays in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), representing the country's Barishal Division. Following the 2015 competition, the team were one of the BPL's six existing members and participated in the league's 2016 edition.
