Mahinda College is a Buddhist boys' school in Galle, Sri Lanka. The school was established on 1 March 1892 by the Buddhist Theosophical Society led by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott. As of today it is a national school which provides primary and secondary education across 13 grades to a student population of over 5300.

The Richmond–Mahinda Cricket Encounter, popularly referred to as the Lovers' Quarrel, is an annual cricket big match played between the first XI cricket teams of Richmond College and Mahinda College in Galle, Sri Lanka. It is one of the longest cricket match series in Sri Lanka, having been played for over 119 years. It is played at the Galle International Stadium. Lovers' Quarrel began in 1905, under the two principals Rev. James Horne Darrel of Richmond College and Sir. Frank Lee Woodward of Mahinda College.

Lakshman Rajapaksa was a Sri Lankan politician.

Sirisena Hettige was a Ceylonese politician. A member of the United National Party, he was a parliamentarian for Hakmana electorate in Matara district. Hettige was born in Matara and educated at Mahinda College, Galle, where he was an outstanding cricketer during his school days. He was a planter by profession and was a director of the Sri Lanka State Plantation Corporation.

Munasinghe Kariyawasam Appuhamilage Don Somadasa Gunawardana was a Sri Lankan politician and a former member of Parliament and government minister.

Baddegama electoral district was an electoral district of Sri Lanka between August 1947 and February 1989. The district was named after the town of Baddegama in Galle District, Southern Province. The 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka introduced the proportional representation electoral system for electing members of Parliament. The existing 160 mainly single-member electoral districts were replaced with 22 multi-member electoral districts. Baddegama electoral district was replaced by the Galle multi-member electoral district at the 1989 general elections, the first under the proportional representation system.

The 15th Parliament of Sri Lanka was the meeting of the Parliament of Sri Lanka with its membership determined by the results of the 2015 parliamentary election, held on 17 August 2015. The parliament met for the first time on 1 September 2015 and was dissolved on 3 March 2020.

Harishchandra Abeygunawardena is a former Vice-Chancellor of University of Peradeniya, in Sri Lanka.

Gervin Panduka Samarawickrama is a Sri Lankan physician and academic. He was the inaugural Vice-Chancellor of University of Ruhuna.

Justin Wijayawardhene was a Sri Lankan teacher, author and member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Ibrahim Adaham Abdul Cader, known as I. A. Cader was a Sri Lankan lawyer and member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Athula Buddhagosha Attygalle is a Sri Lankan scientist who works as a professor in the field of mass spectrometry in the United States. He was awarded the "Inventor of the Year" award in 2014 by the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame for his work in mass spectrometric analysis utilizing helium plasma and charge-exchange ionization techniques. In 2017 Attygalle won an Edison Patent Award from the Research and Development Council of New Jersey for his patented work in mass spectrometric analysis utilizing helium-plasma and charge-exchange ionization techniques, and the Arnold Berliner Award in 2021.

William Neal de Alwis was a Ceylonese politician and a senior member of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party.
