This article contains a list of rugby union players who have represented the Melbourne Rebels in a Super Rugby competition match since they joined the competition in 2011 and exited the competition at the end of the 2024 season. Players are ordered in order of first appearance. Players who played in the Rebels inaugural game are ordered in alphabetical order, but whereafter are ordered in position from No. 1 to No. 15 if more than one player debut in the same match at the same point of debut. Players are given an official 'Rebel number' on their first Super Rugby appearance, or appearance in a regionalised competition such as Super Rugby AU or Super Rugby Trans-Tasman. [1]
A player's nationality shown is taken from the nationality at the highest honour for the national side obtained; or if never capped internationally their place of birth. Senior caps take precedence over junior caps or place of birth; junior caps take precedence over place of birth. A player's nationality at debut may be different from the nationality shown. Combination sides like the British and Irish Lions or Pacific Islanders are not national sides, or nationalities.
Players listed in Bold denote a player who is internationally capped. Players may have played in another position than listed, but only main positions are listed. Players may have been contracted for others seasons, but only seasons in which they played an official Super Rugby match are included.
A number of players have been signed by the Melbourne Rebels but not appeared in a match, or are currently signed to the Rebels, but yet to feature in an official Super Rugby match. The following list includes all those players. Players on training contracts or trial contracts are not included here. Players in Bold are internationally capped. Players are listed in alphabetical order.
Gareth Leon Delve is a former Wales international rugby union player. Having started his career playing rugby in the English Premiership Rugby from 2001, he became a captain of Gloucester. Then, in late 2010, he moved to Australia where he went on to captain the Melbourne Rebels, as well as later playing in Japan. He returned to play his final season for the Swansea Ospreys, before retiring from professional rugby in 2016, his usual position was number 8. Since retirement he has completed an MSc in university, and had become part of backroom staff in Bristol and then Gloucester, where since 2022 he became the academy manager.
Kurtley James Beale is an Australian professional rugby union representative player who has made over 90 national representative appearances in a ten-year playing career at the world-class level. He is of Aboriginal descent, has had a long Super Rugby career with the New South Wales Waratahs and has played for the Melbourne Rebels and the Wasps club in England. Beale usually plays at full-back or centre but can play fly-half or winger. In 2011 Beale received the John Eales Medal, awarded to Australian rugby's Player of the Year.
The Melbourne Rebels were an Australian professional rugby union team based in Melbourne that competed in the Super Rugby Pacific competition. The Rebels made their debut in SANZAR's Super Rugby tournament in 2011. The club shared its name with a former Australian Rugby Championship team, but was unrelated. The team played home matches at AAMI Park.
Peter Betham is a professional rugby union player for the Provence in the ProD2. He was a representative player for Australia in international rugby matches. His usual position is wing or fullback.
Lopeti Timani is a Tongan professional rugby union player who plays as a lock for United Rugby Championship club Cardiff and the Tonga national team.
Ben Meehan is an Australian rugby union player. He played as a scrum-half for Gloucester in Premiership Rugby.
Adam Coleman is a professional rugby union player who plays as a lock for Top 14 club Bordeaux Bègles. Born in Australia, he represents Tonga at international level after qualifying on ancestry grounds.
Jack Debreczeni is a New Zealand rugby union player who currently plays as a fly half for the ACT Brumbies in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
Sefanaia Naivalu, known simply as Sefa, is an Australian rugby union professional player who currently plays as a centre or wing for the Queensland Reds in the international Super Rugby competition. He also represented Melbourne Rising in the inaugural National Rugby Championship. He has a 100 metre recorded time of 10.5seconds in 2011.
Andrew Kellaway is an Australian rugby union player who currently plays for the Melbourne Rebels in the Super Rugby competition. He also previously played for the Waratahs and English club Northampton. Kellaway has been capped for Australia's national team, the Wallabies. His regular playing positions are fullback and wing.
Joe Powell is an Australian rugby union scrum-half who is currently unattached. He most recently played for Leicester Tigers in Premiership Rugby, the top tier of English rugby union. He previously played for London Irish, Canberra Vikings and the ACT Brumbies. He was a member of the Brumbies extended playing squad, making his first appearances for the franchise during the 2015 Super Rugby season.
Reece Hodge is an Australian professional rugby union player who plays as a back. After playing his junior career primarily at fly-half, Hodge initially played fullback and wing for the Rebels, and primarily played wing for Australia, before eventually moving to centre. In his most recent appearance for Australia Hodge played at inside centre. Hodge currently plays for French club Bayonne in the Top 14 and the Australia national team. Hodge started his professional career in Super Rugby with the Melbourne Rebels, where he reached 100 appearances and became the team's most capped player before his departure in 2023.
Sione Tuipulotu is a professional rugby union player who plays as a centre for United Rugby Championship club Glasgow Warriors. Born in Australia, he is the current captain of the Scotland national rugby union team after qualifying on ancestry grounds.
Richard Hardwick is a Namibian professional rugby union player who plays for the Ealing Trailfinders in the RFU Championship and Namibia as a loose forward. He previously played for the Western Force and the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby, while he played for Perth Spirit and Melbourne Rising in the National Rugby Championship.
Jordan Uelese is an Australian professional rugby union player for the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby. He has been capped for the Australian national team. His usual position is hooker.
