A century in cricket occurs when a batsman scores 100 runs or more in an innings, 72 New Zealand players have scored centuries in Test matches. [1]
In the sport of cricket, a century is a score of 100 or more runs in a single innings by a batsman. The term is also included in "century partnership" which occurs when two batsmen add 100 runs to the team total when they are batting together. A century is regarded as a landmark score for batsmen and a player's number of centuries is generally recorded in his career statistics. Scoring a century is loosely equivalent in merit to a bowler taking five wickets in an innings, and is commonly referred to as a ton or hundred. Scores of more than 200 runs are still statistically counted as a century, although these scores are referred as double, triple, and quadruple centuries, and so on.
Test cricket is the form of the sport of cricket with the longest duration, and is considered the game's highest standard. Test matches are played between national representative teams with "Test status", as determined and conferred by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The term Test stems from the fact of the form's long, gruelling matches being both mentally and physically testing. Two teams of 11 players each play a four-innings match, which may last up to five days. It is generally considered the most complete examination of a team's endurance and ability.
In cricket, a batter is not out if she or he comes out to bat in an innings and has not been dismissed by the end of the innings. The batter is also not out while his innings is still in progress.
Martin David Crowe was a New Zealand former cricketer, Test and ODI captain as well as a commentator. He played for the New Zealand national cricket team between 1982 and 1995, and is regarded as the country's greatest batsman.
Luteru Ross Poutoa Lote Taylor is a New Zealand cricketer, who plays predominantly at number four in all formats of the game. Taylor is considered as one of the greatest batsmen to represent New Zealand and became the nation's highest ODI century maker surpassing Nathan Astle, on 22 February 2017, with his 17th ODI century.
Brendon Barrie "Baz" McCullum, is a former New Zealand international cricketer, who played all formats, and also a former captain in all forms. McCullum took quick scoring to Test matches as well, notably recording the fastest test century of all time. He is considered as one of the most successful batsmen and captains of New Zealand cricket.
