This is a partial list of aircraft acquired in China prior to the start of the Second Sino-Japanese war on 7 July 1937, and an incomplete list of Chinese warlords involved in the acquisition of these aircraft, many for the inventory of their own aviation/combat units.
Various aircraft in Chinese provincial/warlord service, along with overseas-Chinese volunteer pilots, had crossed-over into the centralized command (ROCAF) of the nominally Nationalist Air Force of China by 1937 in preparations for the impending war against the Empire of Japan.
A light bomber is a relatively small and fast type of military bomber aircraft that was primarily employed before the 1950s. Such aircraft would typically not carry more than one ton of ordnance.

The Republic of China Air Force (ROCAF) was officially formed by the Kuomintang (KMT) after the establishment of the Aviation Ministry in 1920. As tensions mounted between China and Imperial Japan in the 1930s, air units from the Chinese warlords, including those from the Guangdong Provincial Air Force, and overseas Chinese aviators, became integrated into the centralized command of the ROCAF, nominally as the Nationalist Air Force of China, and coordinating with the Second United Front to counter the Imperial Japanese invasion and occupation.
The Austrian Air Force of the interwar period began as a paramilitary organisation (1927) and was secretly built up by the government before union with Germany (1938).
