Providence Stadium is a sports ground in Providence, Guyana, it has a capacity of 15,000. The ground has hosted two test matches since 2008 when West Indies played Sri Lanka for the first time. [1] A total of 21 One Day Internationals (ODIs) have been hosted, the first in 2007 when South Africa played Sri Lanka in 2007 ICC World Cup pool game, [2] where Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga demolished Preoteas with four-of-four for the first time in international cricket history. [3] The first of the 6 Twenty20 International matches held at the venue dated back to 2007 where New Zealand won the match by 2 wickets against Sri Lanka. [4]

Sri Lankan opener Malinda Warnapura became the first man to score a Test century at Providence Stadium when he made 120 against West Indies in the inaugural match. The score of 136 by Sri Lankan maestro Mahela Jayawardene against Windies in the same match recorded the highest score seen at the ground. Overall, there are only 2 Test centuries have been scored at the ground. [5]

Seven ODI centuries have been scored at Providence Stadium, and the first by Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka who scored 115 from 101 deliveries against West Indies in 2007 World Cup pool match. The highest score at the ground is an unbeaten 130 by Bangladeshi Tamim Iqbal against Windies in 2018. [6]

The only player to score a Twenty20 International century at the venue is Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka against Zimbabwe in 2010 ICC World Twenty20. [7]

In women's cricket, the only player to score a century women's Twenty20 Internationals is Harmanpreet Kaur of India against New Zealand in the 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20. [8]

The Sri Lanka national men's cricket team, nicknamed The Lions, represents Sri Lanka in men's international cricket. Mahela Jayawardene Sri Lankan cricketer

Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene, usually known as Mahela Jayawardene, ( is a Sri Lankan cricket coach and former cricketer. Jayawardene made his Test cricket debut in 1997 and his One Day International debut the following season. In 2006 he made the highest ever score by a Sri Lankan in Test cricket, scoring 374 in the second Test of Sri Lanka's home series against South Africa. He has a test cricket average of just under 50 and a One Day average in the 30s. He is the first player in the history of Sri Lankan cricket to score over 10,000 Test runs. He is also the second Sri Lankan player to score more than 10,000 runs in ODIs. Mahela is also the Chairman of Sri Lanka National Sports Council.

Providence Stadium Cricket stadium

The Providence Stadium or Guyana National Stadium is a sports stadium in Guyana, replacing Bourda as the national stadium. The stadium was built specifically to host Super Eight matches in the 2007 Cricket World Cup held in March and April 2007.

Angelo Mathews Sri Lankan cricketer

Angelo Davis Mathews,, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer and a former captain in all formats. He was also a key member of the team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 and was part of the team that made the finals of 2011 Cricket World Cup, 2009 ICC World Twenty20 and 2012 ICC World Twenty20. An occasional bowler who can deliver swinging match-winning spells, Mathews and Lasith Malinga holds the record for the highest ninth wicket partnership in ODI cricket.
