The Eden Gardens is a cricket ground in Kolkata, India. [1] It is one of the main international cricket venues of India and often called the "Mecca of Indian cricket". [2] [3] [4] It is the home of the Bengal cricket team and the Kolkata Knight Riders, as well as being a Test, One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) venue. [1] [5] As of 2020, the Eden Gardens has hosted more than 40 Test matches, [6] [7] the first of which was in January 1934 when India played the touring England team. [7] [8] These include the first ever day/night Test match in India which was hosted between 22 and 24 November 2019, when India played the visiting Bangladesh team. [3] [7] The first ODI played at the ground was between India and Pakistan on 18 February 1987. [9] [10] As of 2020, 30 ODIs have been played at the ground. [6] [9]
The first Test century scored at the ground was in December 1948, by Everton Weekes of the West Indies. He scored 162 runs in the first innings. In the same match Syed Mushtaq Ali of India scored 106 in the fourth innings, thus becoming the first Indian to have scored a century at the Eden Gardens. [11] [12] To date, 77 Test centuries have been scored at the ground. [11] VVS Laxman's 281, scored against Australia in March 2001, during the famous second test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is the highest individual Test score achieved at the ground. [13] [14] The highest individual Test score by an overseas player is 256, scored by Rohan Kanhai of the West Indies in December 1958. [13] [15] Mohammad Azharuddin and VVS Laxman have scored five Test centuries each, the highest number of Test centuries scored by an individual player at the ground. [16] During the second Test of the India–South Africa Test series held in February 2010 at the ground, a total of seven centuries were scored between the two teams. This is the highest number of centuries scored in a single Test match at the ground. [17]
The first ODI century scored at the ground was by Kris Srikkanth of India on 18 February 1987. He scored 123 runs in the first innings against Pakistan. [18] [19] The first century scored by an overseas player was on 1 November 1989 by Desmond Haynes of the West Indies. He scored an unbeaten 107 runs against India. [20] To date, 13 ODI centuries have been scored at the ground. [18] Rohit Sharma's 264, scored against Sri Lanka on 13 November 2014, is the highest individual ODI score achieved at the ground as well as the highest individual score of all time in ODIs. [21] [22] [23] The highest individual ODI score by an overseas player is 134 not out, scored by Graeme Smith of South Africa on 25 November 2005. [21] [24] No player has scored more than one ODI century at the ground. [25] Two centuries were scored during the ICC World Cup in 2011. Ryan ten Doeschate of the Netherlands scored 106 runs and Paul Stirling of Ireland scored 101 runs in the first and second innings respectively of the same match on 18 March 2011. [26]
The first T20I was played between India and the touring England team on 29 October 2011. As of 2020, seven T20I matches have been played at the ground. [6] [27] [28] To date, no T20I centuries have been scored at the ground. [29]
Karu Jain of India scored the only Women's One Day International (WODI) century achieved at the Eden Gardens. [30] She scored 103 runs against England in the first innings on 9 December 2005. [31] To date, no centuries have been scored in a Women's Test cricket match or a Women's Twenty20 International (WT20) match played in the stadium. [32] [33]

Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman is a former Indian international cricketer and a former cricket commentator and pundit. A right-hand batsman known for his elegant stroke play, Laxman played as a middle-order batsman in Test cricket. Laxman is currently the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), and the head coach of the India Under-19 and India A teams. Laxman was a member of the Indian team that was one of the joint-winners of the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, which the title was also shared with Sri Lanka.
Sir Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge is a retired Barbadian cricketer, who represented the West Indies in Test and One-day Cricket for 17 years, as well as Barbados and Hampshire in first-class cricket. Greenidge is regarded worldwide as one of the greatest and most destructive opening batsmen in cricket history. In 2009, Greenidge was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
Mohammed Shami is an Indian international cricketer who plays for India in all formats as a right-arm fast or fast medium bowler. He has played for Bengal in domestic cricket and for four teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami bowls the ball off the seam and uses swing, including reverse swing, to move the ball both ways. He has been reputed to have an edge in the death (slog) overs of a limited-overs innings and, in all formats, has been described as being at times "unplayable". Shami finished as India's leading wicket taker in ICC World Cup 2023, besides being the fastest bowler to take 50 wickets in the 48 years history of Cricket World Cup spanning 13 editions.
The Arun Jaitley Stadium is a cricket stadium owned and operated by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi. It was established in 1883 as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, and named after the nearby Kotla fort. It is the second oldest functional international cricket stadium in India, after the Eden Gardens of Kolkata. As of 25 October 2019, it has hosted 36 Tests, 29 ODIs and 6 T20I.
The Sawai Mansingh Stadium is a cricket stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. It was named after Sawai Man Singh II, the former Maharaja of the state of Jaipur. The stadium seats 30,000. As of July 2013, the stadium and grounds could be toured using Google Street View. As of 19 Aug 2017 it has hosted 1 Test and 19 ODIs.
Marlon Nathaniel Samuels is a Jamaican former cricketer who played internationally for the West Indies in all three formats, and a former ODI captain. He is a right-handed middle order batsman and an off-spinner. He was a key member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20, and was named man of the match in the final of both tournaments, becoming the first man to achieve the feat.

Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is primarily used for international cricket matches. The stadium has two-tiers and was designed to avoid any restricted view seats, eliminating pillars or columns which come in the field of view of spectators in some of the Indian stadiums. The pitch is known to be batsman-friendly.

He is also the current captain of the Tamil Nadu cricket team in domestic cricket. He made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2004. Karthik has become the 4th Indian batsman to play 300 T20 matches. Karthik was a member of the team that won both the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
Shai Diego Hope is a Barbadian cricketer, who plays as a wicketkeeper/batsman for the West Indies cricket team. He is also the current ODI captain of the Windies. In June 2018, he was named the Men's Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and the ODI Cricketer of the Year at the annual Cricket West Indies' Awards. The following year, he was named the CWI ODI Player of the Year. He is generally regarded as one of the best ODI batsmen in the contemporary cricketing world. Hope has also twice been named, for both 2020 and 2022, in the ICC ODI Team of the Year.
