The Sardar Patel Stadium is a cricket ground on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, India, it was established in 1982 and has a capacity of 54,000. The ground hosted its first international match in 1983 when India played the West Indies in a Test match, One Day Internationals (ODIs) have been played at the ground since 1984. [1] The ground has been the scene of 29 Test and 13 ODI centuries. [2] [3]
The first Test century scored at the ground was in 1987 by the Pakistani Ijaz Faqih who made 105. It was during the same match that Dilip Vengsarkar scored the first Test century by an Indian at the ground. The Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene holds the record for the highest score made at the ground, 275 in 2009. Rahul Dravid is the highest Indian scorer at the ground. Dravid is also one of two players to have scored three Test centuries at the ground the other is Sachin Tendulkar. [2]
The New Zealander Nathan Astle became the first player to score an ODI century at the ground when he made 101 against England in 1996. Sourav Ganguly, who was the first Indian to score an ODI century at the ground, has made the highest ODI score with 144. Dravid and Chris Gayle are the only players to have made two ODI centuries at the ground. [3]
