  5. Prior to the separation of the Moreton Bay district of New South Wales into the independent colony of Queensland, the Supreme Court of New South Wales was the superior court in the District. A judge was resident at Moreton Bay from 1856 and a local division of the court, named the Supreme Court at Moreton Bay, was established in 1857, [10] and existed until the Supreme Court of Queensland was created in 1861.

John Alexander Logan, SC is a judge of the Federal Court of Australia, President of the Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal, a Deputy President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and judge of the Supreme and National Courts of Papua New Guinea.

The Chief Justice of New South Wales is the senior judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the highest-ranking judicial officer in the Australian state of New South Wales. The Chief Justice is both the judicial head of the Supreme Court as well as the administrative head, responsible for arranging the business of the court and establishing its rules and procedures.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hugh Denis Macrossan</span> Australian judge

Hugh Denis Macrossan was a politician and judge in Queensland, a State of Australia. He was elected as a member of the Queensland Parliament, and was later to become a judge and also the Chief Justice of Queensland. He was the son of a prominent Queensland politician, and he was elected as a member of parliament. He served as a judge from 1926, until his appointment as chief justice in 1940 and his death later that year. He was the shortest serving chief justice in Queensland history, serving only one month, and was one of only two chief justices to have a brother and nephew served as chief justice.

John Murtagh Macrossan was Queensland’s 16th Chief Justice and the third person from the Macrossan family to occupy that position. He was also a distinguished barrister, chancellor and judge. His grandfather John Murtagh Macrossan was Colonial Secretary for Queensland, his two uncles Hugh Denis Macrossan and Neal William Macrossan were also Chief Justice of Queensland.

Patrick Anthony Keane is a former Justice of the High Court of Australia and a former Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia. He will soon join as a judge on the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Margaret McMurdo</span> Australian judge

Margaret Anne McMurdo is the former president of the Queensland Court of Appeal. Appointed on 30 July 1998, she was the first female president of an appellate court in Australia. She resigned effective 24 March 2017 after more than 18 years as a justice of the Court of Appeal.

Justice Henry George Fryberg was a Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia.

Philip D. McMurdo is an Australian judge. He has been a judge of the Queensland Court of Appeal since 2015; he was previously a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland from 2003 to 2015.

Timothy Francis Carmody is an Australian judge who was the Chief Justice of Queensland between 8 July 2014 and 1 July 2015. His previous roles include work as a police officer, barrister, Queensland Crime Commissioner, Family Court of Australia judge, and Chief Magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Queensland. He also presided over the 2013 Child Protection Commission of Inquiry.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Joseph Aloysius Sheehy</span>

Sir Joseph Aloysius Sheehy KBE was an Australian jurist and Senior Puisne Judge of the Queensland Supreme Court. He also served as Administrator of the Government of Queensland in 1965 and 1969, and as Queensland's Lieutenant-Governor, Deputy Governor, Acting Governor and Acting Chief Justice on several occasions.

Angelo Vasta QC was a prominent Queen's Counsel and judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland. He is the first superior court judge with an Italian background to be appointed in Queensland, and the second one to be appointed in Australia.
