Åparken is a public park in central Aarhus, Denmark. The park is situated by the Aarhus River in the Vesterbro neighborhood in Midtbyen close to CeresByen, bounded by the streets Carls Blochs Gade and Thorvaldsensgade. The park is divided by a central pedestrian pathway which runs from the urban center and connects to the recreational path Brabrandstien towards the west, circumventing Brabrand Lake area. Åparken is the first of a number of green areas extending from the city centre along the river and the pathway of Brabrandstien. The long distance "Aarhus-Silkeborg hiking route" starts off from Åparken.
Stykgodspakhuset, or Pakhus 13, is a former warehouse and a listed building in Aarhus, Denmark. The warehouse was built in 1926 and was listed in the Danish national registry of protected buildings and places by the Danish Heritage Agency on 4 April 2006. The warehouse is situated on the water front of the Port of Aarhus in the central Indre by neighbourhood next to the Custom House and has functioned as a storehouse for parcels and other small cargo since completion to the mid 20th century. The building is today used for offices after extensive renovation in 2007.
Herskind's House is a house and a listed building in Aarhus, Denmark. The house was built in approximately 1850 and was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places by the Danish Heritage Agency on 2 October 1970. The house is situated in the historic Indre by neighborhood on Frederiksgade, close to the City Hall.
Vestergade is a street in Aarhus, Denmark, which runs east to west from the central square of Store Torv to the city park of Åparken at Carl Blochs Gade, intersecting the main streets of Grønnegade and Vester Allé along its course. Vestergade begins in the Indre By neighborhood and ends in neighborhood of Vesterbro, close to CeresByen. Vestergade has some of the best preserved 18th-century merchant estates in Aarhus and a history of creativity and artistic expression.
Dokk1 or Dokken is a government building, public library and culture center in Aarhus, Denmark. It is situated on Hack Kampmanns Plads in the city center by the waterfront next to the Custom House. Dokk1 is part of the much larger development project Urban Mediaspace Aarhus, jointly financed by Aarhus Municipality and Realdania for 2.1 billion DKK. It is designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Kristine Jensen, with construction managed by NCC AB. Construction broke ground 8 June 2011 and the building was inaugurated four years later on 20 June 2015.
The architecture of Aarhus comprises numerous architectural styles and works from the Middle Ages to present-day. Aarhus has a well-preserved medieval city center with the oldest dwellings dating back to the mid-1500s and some ecclesiastical structures such as St. Clemen's Cathedral and numerous smaller churches that can be traced back to the 1100s. The industrialization of the 19th and 20th centuries left distinctive industrial structures, important National romantic works and some of the best examples of Functionalist architecture in the country. The history of the city as a Viking fort is evidenced in the street layout of the Latin Quarter, the wider Indre By neighborhood testifies to its later role as a Market town and center of commerce while the Frederiksbjerg, Trøjborg and Marselisborg districts showcase the first cohesive urban planning efforts of the early 20th century.
Scandinavian Center is a convention center in Aarhus, Denmark situated in the Midtbyen neighborhood at the city square of Margrethepladsen. Scandinavian Center was finished in 1995 by designs of the architect practice Friis & Moltke in a modern style. Today, the building is privately owned and used for various activities such a conventions, hotel and businesses. The building is a well-known landmark in central Aarhus, situated in Eckersbergsgade.
DGI-Huset or DGI Huset Aarhus is a sports center located in Aarhus, Denmark. Parts of the buildings are historic, built in 1910 as part of the Aarhus Central Workshops for the Danish national railway company DSB. In 1990, DSB closed and sold their repair facilities to Aarhus Municipality and in 1997 the sports organization of DGI bought the building. An extensive renovation and construction project was completed on 11 October 2003, including new extensions. The buildings now serves as the primary facility for the sports organization Danske Gymnastik- & Idrætsforeninger in Aarhus, featuring a number of sports facilities, conference rooms. It is also home to some local sports clubs. The organization DGI-Århusegnen, the local chapter of the national organization DGI, took initiative to establish the sports center in the building.
Aarhus Female Seminary is a building and a former women's teachers' seminary in Aarhus, Denmark situated on Trøjborgvej 82. The building was constructed for the religious Christian organization Indre Mission in 1910 to house a teachers' seminary for women. The building has housed educational institutions since it was built although Indre Mission no longer owns the building. The name of the school has changed over the years as it has transitioned through different operators but VIA University College may be the last as the college will eventually relocate to CeresByen. The building was designed by the architect Frits Jensen who gave it a French palace-expression.
Marienlyst Park is a public park in Hasle in the Aarhus V district, north-west Aarhus, Denmark. The park is situated west of the Herredsvang neighborhood along the street Fjældevænget Busvej to the south and Brendstrup Forest to the west. Marienlyst Park is one of the largest parks in Aarhus and features both landscaped lawns and artificial forested hills. Facilities include an amphitheatre, soccer fields, playgrounds and a 6-hole golf course. Marienlyst Park was established in connection with the development of western Hasle in the 1970s and today forms part of a green corridor extending from Vestereng to Brabrand Lake. The park is owned by Aarhus Municipality and is managed by the municipal department Natur og Miljø. Marienlyst Park can be rented for public events.
Langenæs Park is a public park in the Langenæs neighborhood in the Aarhus C district in Aarhus, Denmark. The park is situated west of the Frederiksbjerg neighborhood along the curved street Langenæs Allé to the south and the AArhus rail yard to the north. Langenæs Park is one of the largest parks in Aarhus and is composed of mainly landscaped lawns with trees scattered throughout along with a large section dedicated to sports. Facilities include soccer fields, a disc gold field, picnic areas and a paved running track. Langenæs Park was established in connection with the development of the Langenæs neighborhood in the 1970s and is today the primary recreational spot in the area along with Frederiksbjerg Bypark to the west and the Rehabilitation PArk to the south. The park is owned by Aarhus Municipality and is managed by the municipal department Natur og Miljø and can be rented for public events.
Ceres Panorama is a high-rise building on Ceres Allé in the CeresByen neighborhood in Aarhus, Denmark. At 75 meters it is the third tallest building in Aarhus after Aarhus Cathedral and Aarhus City Tower and as of 2016, it is the 11th tallest building in Denmark. Ceres Panorama is a residential condominium building with 130 privately owned units. The high-rise was built as the flagship building in the development of the CeresByen neighborhood and with its 20 floors in an area of mainly 8-10 story buildings it makes for a very noticeable landmark.
Ådalen is a green area and event site in Åbyhøj, in Aarhus. It is about 45 hectares in size and located along the Aarhus River, two kilometers from the inner city. Ådalen can be reached by Søren Frichs Vej from the nearby Ring 1 ring road or the outer Ring 2 ring road. The area is surrounded by a business park and a total of three allotment gardens.
