The southbound diesel hauled Acropolis Express and northbound Number 121 Athens-Thessaloniki, (known as posta) were allowed to proceed [6] without first allowing a passing loop. Twenty-one people died, and more than 40 were injured. [7] [8] [5] Nikolaos Gekas, [9] the stationmaster at Orfana was sentenced to five years for his part in the disaster. [10] [11] [12] In the same year, Yiannis Ritsos wrote the tragedy-related song "Ide kai de", composed by Nikos Mamagakis and performed by Yiannis Poulopoulos. [13]

Chryso 2006 accident17 February 2006218Two dead and 18 injured in a collision between a train and an agricultural vehicle that had stopped on the railway tracks. The driver of the car and a passenger were killed. [15]
Larissa 2008 accident8 March 2008028 [18] An Alexandroupolis-bound [19] InterCity train derailed 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) outside Larissa. Initial reports indicated human error when the station master failed to change the points after a previous train had passed through the station, causing five carriages from the passenger train to jump the tracks. The two drivers of the derailed train were taken in for questioning, and the station master fled the scene. [18]
Achladokampos 2010 collision9 December 201010One person was killed in a derailment on the Nafplio-Argos-Tripoli line. [20]
Kryoneri crash6 April 201222A car, in which an elderly couple were riding, is hit at an unmanned level crossing by an Intercity train after becoming trapped on the line. Two are killed. [21]
Lianokladi 2013 collisionDecember 201302 [22] Shortly after 10:30 a.m., a train collided with a large animal on the tracks shortly after passing Asopos, causing one of the cars to derail. The driver and a passenger were slightly injured.
Chryso 2016 accident16 May 20162?A shifter collided with a Unimog line motor vehicle, resulting in the death of the two occupants of the Unimog. [23]
Adendro train derailment 13 May 2017310An Intercity passenger train, with 70 passengers onboard, derailed and collided with a house in Adendro. The reason for the accident was determined to have been excessive speed. Three dead, the driver, the traffic supervisor and a passenger. [24] [25]
Larissa 2018 accident3 August 201802 [26] A Stylida-bound train derailed at Larissa station. The train left the tracks and collided with a wall of a building as it entered the station. Initial reports indicate an unknown person or persons in the control room had switched the points [27] sending the train straight into the building. [28] This raised the issue of rail safety in Greece. [29]
Kalochori 2018 accident15 December 201810An agricultural tractor driven by an 84-year-old citizen collided at the height of Kalochori, Serres, with a passenger train running the Alexandroupolis - Thessaloniki route, resulting in the fatal injury of the 84-year-old. [30]
Xanthi 2019 accident20 July 201910A train hit and killed a person. [31] [32]
Diavata 2019 accident19 August 201911A collision between a train and a passenger car at an unguarded crossing, one person was killed and another injured. [33] [34]
Tempi train crash 28 February 202357+100+A delayed InterCity passenger train travelling from Athens to Thessaloniki collided head-on with an intermodal train going the opposite way on the same stretch of track with both partially derailing near Larissa. With at least 57 dead, 80 injured and others unaccounted for, it is the worst railway disaster in the history of railways in Greece. [35] It has been attributed to human error.

Miran Pastourma is a renowned pastourma and sujuk charcuterie business and market in Athens, Greece. The market has been in operation since 1922. It is considered the charcuterie of the connoisseurs. Despite the Greek economic crisis, Miran is expanding its business and has doubled in size to accommodate increased demand. The founder of the shop, Miran Kourounlian, is thought to be the man who brought pastourma to Athens for the first time. Miran is considered the largest company of its kind in the European Union. The flavour of pastourma coming from the historical enterprise permeates Euripides Street in the centre of Athens. Miran and its neighbor Arapian Cold Cuts are considered two of the historical establishments of Athens. Miran has been in the same spot in Euripidou Street since its opening in 1922. Miran is the recipient of multiple gourmet prizes.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">September 2015 Greek legislative election</span>

Legislative elections were held in Greece on Sunday, 20 September 2015, following Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' announced resignation on 20 August. At stake were all 300 seats in the Hellenic Parliament. This was a snap election, the sixth since 2007, since new elections were not due until February 2019.

Orfana railway station is a railway station in Orfana, Karditsa, Thessaly, Greece. It is located just east of the village. Opened in 1995, replacing an older station of the same name.

Doxaras railway station is a railway station in Doxaras, Larissa, Thessaly, Greece. The station is located 550m west of the centre of the settlement, on the Piraeus–Platy railway, 184 kilometres (114 mi) from Thessaloniki, and is severed by Reganal stopping services, and sees two trains a day.

The eighth season of Survivor Greece, the Greek version of the popular reality show Survivor, began airing on December 27, 2020 on Skai TV and also in Cyprus on Sigma TV. Giorgos Lianos will host alone for the first time, as Sakis Tanimanidis decided not to be a host for this season, due to his wife's pregnancy. Ten players and ten celebrities, who have been known in Greece through their work, are invited to survive on a deserted island, the exotic La Romana in Dominican Republic, having their luggage, the necessary clothes and basic food supply.

The Orfana rail disaster occurred on 16 January 1972 when, at around 16:45, a breakdown in communication between the corresponding stationmasters at Doxaras and Orfana caused an express train and a military relief train to collide in bad weather on the single track line. Twenty-one people died, and more than forty were injured in one of the deadliest rail accidents in Greece. Nikolaos Gekas, the stationmaster at Orfana, was later sentenced to five years for his part in the disaster.
