Vijay is an Indian actor and playback singer who works in Tamil films. [1] The son of singer Shoba Chandrasekhar, Vijay debuted in the lead role in early 1990s, appearing in Naalaiya Theerpu , directed by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar. [2] He has sung for composers including but not limited to, Deva, Ilaiyaraaja, Vidyasagar, Sirpy, Bharani, S. A. Rajkumar, Ramana Gogula, A. R. Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja, D. Imman, Devi Sri Prasad, Harris Jayaraj, G. V. Prakash Kumar, Anirudh Ravichander, Santhosh Narayanan and Thaman S. [3] [4] He is one of the most prolific singers among Tamil actors. [5]

Vijay made his debut by singing "Bombay City Sukkha Rotti" (1994) in Rasigan . After his 25th song "Vaadi Vaadi" (2005) in Sachein , Vijay took a sabbatical from singing to concentrate on acting, [3] but made a comeback with "Google Google" in Thuppakki (2012). He won the Favorite Song of The Year at the Vijay Awards for his performance of the song. [6] and a SIIMA Award nomination for Best Playback Singer. [7]

In 2016, the pop song "Selfie Pulla" which Vijay had recorded in 2014 became popular in Romania and other European countries. [8] He was nominated for a Filmfare Award South in the Best Playback Singer category for "Selfie Pulla". [9] In 2015 he was again nominated for Best Playback Singer, for his performance of "Yaendi Yaendi". [10]

Rasigan (transl. Admirer) is a 1994 Indian Tamil-language romantic action film written and directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar. The film stars his son Vijay, Sanghavi and Vichithra. It revolves around Vijay and Anitha who secretly love each other but are unable to confess their love for each other. Her father realises this and tries to separate the two. However, fate has other plans in store.

<i>Master</i> (soundtrack) 2020 soundtrack album by Anirudh Ravichander

Master is the soundtrack album composed by Anirudh Ravichander, for the 2021 Indian Tamil-language film of the same name, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and produced by Xavier Britto under his production house XB Film Creators, starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi. This film marks Anirudh's first collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj and his second collaboration with Vijay after Kaththi and third collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi after Naanum Rowdy Dhaan and Petta. The soundtrack album features eight songs written by Arunraja Kamaraj, Gana Balachandar, Arivu, Vignesh Shivan, Vishnu Edavan and Bjorn Surrao, with three of them were released as singles. The tracks were released digitally through Sony Music India on 15 March 2020. The film also features an extended soundtrack album with two songs "Vaathi Kabaddi" and "Master The Blaster" being released on 13 and 14 January 2021. The soundtrack album has been streamed by 1.5 billion times in music platforms, and was the highest-streamed Tamil album of the year 2020.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kutti Story</span> 2020 song from Master

"Kutti Story" is an Indian Tamil-language song composed by Anirudh Ravichander for the soundtrack album of the 2021 film Master. The song was sung by actor Vijay and Anirudh, in his second song he sung for Anirudh after "Selfie Pulla" for Kaththi (2014) and the lyrics were penned by Arunraja Kamaraj. The lyrical version of this single was released by Sony Music India on 14 February 2020, and the video song was released on 20 January 2021. The song was earlier titled as "Oru Kutti Kathai" in Tamil, owing to Vijay narrating short stories to fans during his speech at his audio launches.

"Verithanam" (transl. Frenzy) is an Indian Tamil-language song from the 2019 sports action film Bigil directed by Atlee. Composed by A. R. Rahman, the song featured lyrics written by Vivek and sung by actor Vijay, who also played the protagonist in the film. It is the first song Vijay has recorded for Rahman. The song was released by Sony Music India on 1 September 2019, and its video version was unveiled on 1 November.

"Selfie Pulla" is an Indian Tamil-language song composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The song was featured in the soundtrack for the 2014 Tamil action drama film Kaththi, directed by AR Murugadoss, that starred Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and was performed by the lead actor Vijay alongside Sunidhi Chauhan, with lyrics written by Madhan Karky. The song was shot in Mumbai, featuring the lead actors, were choreographed by Shobi.

<i>The Greatest of All Time</i> Upcoming film by Venkat Prabhu

The Greatest of All Time is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language science fiction action film directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by AGS Entertainment. The film stars Vijay in dual roles, leading an ensemble cast which includes Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, Jayaram, Sneha, Laila, Ajmal Ameer, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Vaibhav, Yogi Babu, Premgi Amaren and Yugendran.
