Clarington is a lower-tier municipality in the Regional Municipality of Durham in Ontario, Canada. It was incorporated in 1973 as the town of Newcastle with the merging of the town of Bowmanville, the Village of Newcastle and the townships of Clarke and Darlington, and was established on January 1 1974. In 1993, the town was renamed Clarington, a blending of the names of the two former townships. Darlington today is largely suburban, while Clarke remains largely rural. Bowmanville is the largest community in the municipality and is the home of the municipal offices.

The 16-hectare (40-acre) facility is home to more than 10,000 animals representing more than 300 species. The Hippopotamus Service is a hand-painted 144 piece dinner service commissioned by the American porcelain collector Richard Baron Cohen from the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory, and completed in 2006. The porcelain service features different views of hippopotamuses based on photographs of over 275 hippos taken in zoos all around the world. Cohen commissioned photographer Sarah Louise Galbraith to travel to 101 zoos in 33 countries and photograph the animals. The service was first exhibited at Sotheby's New York City galleries in September 2006. It has subsequently been exhibited at the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, and the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna.
The Oaklawn Farm Zoo was a zoo located in Millville, Nova Scotia, Canada, just south of the village of Aylesford. Before closing, it was Nova Scotia's largest zoo. The zoo opened in 1984, and was family-owned and operated by Ron and Gail Rogerson. The zoo boasted the largest display of Big Cats and Primates in Eastern Canada. The 50-acre (20 ha) zoo was in a rural setting in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley.
The Zoo Sauvage de St-Félicien is one of the largest zoos in the province of Quebec. Located in Saint-Félicien, the zoo is dedicated to wildlife conservation of the boreal climate and is managed by The Centre for Conservation of Boreal Biodiversity inc.
Jungle Cat World, originally named "Orono Exotic Cat World," is a wildlife park that was established in 1983. It is located in Orono, Ontario, Canada, approximately 45 minutes east of Toronto off of Highway 35/115. Jungle Cat World is open year round and is home to more than 150 animals.
An animal theme park, also known as a zoological theme park, is a combination of an amusement park and a zoo, mainly for entertainment, amusement, and commercial purposes. Many animal theme parks combine classic theme park elements, such as themed entertainment and amusement rides, with classic zoo elements such as live animals confined within enclosures for display. Many times, live animals are utilized and featured as part of amusement rides and attractions found at animal theme parks.
