"Love Is Love" is a song by Barry Ryan, released as a single in February 1969. It was written by his brother Paul Ryan and arranged by Johnny Arthey.
"Love Is Love" was released as the follow-up single to the worldwide hit "Eloise". Like with "Eloise", "Love Is Love" was released as "Barry Ryan with the Majority". It continued Ryan's success in continental Europe, becoming a top-ten hit in several countries. However, it was not as successful in the UK, where it only peaked at number 25 on the UK Singles Chart. [1] By August 1969, the record had sold a million copies worldwide. [2]
On why "Love Is Love" wasn't as successful in the UK, Barry said "I think it was too soon and too similar" to "Eloise". However, on the similarity between the two songs, Paul said "they're not that alike anyway, simply that there's the big build up and a break in the middle. If 'Love is Love' was released first it could have been the number one, then people would have said 'Eloise' was a copy of it". [3]
Reviewing for New Musical Express , Derek Johnson described "Love Is Love" as "an incredible disc, and one that could provide Barry Ryan with a second No. 1. His urgent attacking vocal is encased in a scintillating Johnny Arthey scoring that's semi-symphonic in form. The tempo and mood are constantly changing (making it difficult to dance to), but specially prominent are the catchy hook-line chorus and the powerhouse rhythm with its classical Russian influence. No less than 53 people were involved in the backing – and it sounds like it. A shattering wall of sound that, in spite of this, is also controlled and tuneful. Exciting, dynamic, palpitating. [4] Peter Jones for Record Mirror wrote "everything, but everything, is thrown into this. Semi-classical string-section phrases, moments of near falsetto by Barry, moments of screaming power, big brass figures, stacks of choral voices and changes of mood. Okay, so there is a lack of continuity, as has been pointed out to me, but the whole thing is in a class of its own as a massive pop production". [5] For Melody Maker , Chris Welch wrote that "this reminds me of a cross between "2001", "Sparticus", Jim Webb and Richard Harris, the Four Tops, the Leningrad Symphony, the Isle of Man T.T. races, Titov's sensational space voyage in the Russian spacecraft Vodka III [ sic ] and the conquest of the Old West". "Love Is Love" was planned for release as a single in the US, however in the end it remained unissued. [7] Ryan also recorded a Spanish-language version titled "Amor es amor", which became a hit in Spain. [8]

S'Express were a British dance music act from the late 1980s, who had one of the earliest commercial successes in the acid house genre.
"The Great Pretender" is a popular song recorded by The Platters, with Tony Williams on lead vocals, and released as a single in November 1955. The words and music were written by Buck Ram, the Platters' manager and producer who was a successful songwriter before moving into producing and management. The song reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top 100, and No. 5 on the UK charts.
"Eloise" is a song first released in 1968 on the MGM label. It was sung by Barry Ryan, and written by his twin brother Paul Ryan. Running for over five minutes, it features strong orchestration, melodramatic vocals, and a brief slow interlude. It sold three million copies worldwide, and reached No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart as published by Record Retailer, but hit No. 1 in the NME and Melody Maker charts. It topped the chart in 17 countries, including Italy, the Netherlands and Australia.
"You Win Again" is a 1987 song written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb and performed by the Bee Gees. Released as a single in late 1987, it marked the start of the group's comeback, becoming a No. 1 hit in many European countries, including topping the UK Singles Chart—their first to do so in over eight years—and making them the first group to score a UK No. 1 hit in each of three decades: the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
"Games People Play" is a song written, composed, and performed by American singer-songwriter Joe South, released in August 1968, that won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Song and the Grammy Award for Song of the Year.
"Woman in Love" is a song performed by Barbra Streisand and taken from her 1980 album, Guilty. The song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, who received the 1980 Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. "The Legend of Xanadu" is a single by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich that reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in 1968 and was the group's biggest hit. It was written by songwriters Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley. As was the case with many of the group's recordings, it features novelty elements — a trumpet section and the distinctive sound of a whip cracking in the chorus. The musical accompaniment was directed by John Gregory. The single was certified gold in November 1968.
"Faith " is a song by Zambian-born singer Rozalla. It was released in November 1991 as the third single from her second album, Everybody's Free (1992). The single first charted in the UK in April 1991, reaching No. 65. The single was, however, re-released in November of that year after the success of her previous single, "Everybody's Free ", peaking this time at No. 11. The song met with similar success throughout the rest of Europe, although some countries skipped this release in favour of her next single "Are You Ready to Fly". The song did not see a release in the US until 1993, when it peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.
"LSI " is a song by British band the Shamen with vocals by Jhelisa Anderson. Having been remixed by the Beatmasters, it was the first single taken from their fifth album, Boss Drum (1992). Released in July 1992, it achieved success in Finland, where it reached number one, Sweden, where it peaked at number four, and the United Kingdom, where it rose to number six. On the Eurochart Hot 100, "LSI" peaked at number 16. The CD single also contains a remix of "Make It Mine", a song from the En-Tact album.
