The International Mathematical Union (IMU) is an international organization devoted to international cooperation in the field of mathematics across the world. It is a member of the International Science Council (ISC) and supports the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM). Its members are national mathematics organizations from more than 80 countries.
The University of the Witwatersrand,Johannesburg,commonly known as Wits University or Wits,is a multi-campus public research university situated in the northern areas of central Johannesburg,South Africa. Rosina Mamokgethi Phakeng is a South African professor of mathematics education who in 2018 became a vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT). She has been the vice principal of research and innovation,at the University of South Africa and acting executive dean of the College of Science,Engineering and Technology at UNISA. In 2018 she was an invited speaker at the International Congresses of Mathematicians. Norma Glasgo Reid,Lady Birley was Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of the Witwatersrand. A statistician,and health service researcher,she has also held the positions of director of an academic consultancy firm,Associate Professor of the University of Ulster,and an Honorary Professor of Sussex University. She was appointed to Witwatersrand in 2000,following a 25-year career as a researcher,teacher and senior administrator in higher education.

Peter Vale is a senior research fellow at the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship at the University of Pretoria,South Africa,and the Nelson Mandela Professor of Politics Emeritus at Rhodes University,South Africa. He is also an honorary professor at the Africa Earth Observatory Network (AEON) of which he was a founding member. Notably,Vale was the founding director of the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) and acting vice-rector for academic affairs and deputy vice-chancellor of the University of the Western Cape,South Africa. He has also received an honoury doctorate in the Humanities from the University of the Free State,South Africa.

Saurabh Sinha is an influential South African engineer and a Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Internationalisation at the University of Johannesburg. He was previously the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg. He formerly served as Director of the Carl and Emily Fuchs Institute for Microelectronics at the University of Pretoria,from which he graduated with a Ph.D. in electronic engineering.
Maxwell Sakhela Buhlungu is a South African sociology professor and university administrator. He is the current vice chancellor of University of Fort Hare and the former dean of humanities at University of Cape Town. Buhlungu's work focuses on the labour and other social movements. He has also taught at the University of the Witwatersrand,the University of Johannesburg,and the University of Pretoria. At Fort Hare,his efforts to combat corruption lead to threats that culminated in a January 2023 assassination attempt that killed his bodyguard. Before academia,Buhlungu worked as a teacher and was the assistant general secretary of the Paper,Printing and Allied Workers' Union.
Tawana Kupe is a Zimbabwean academic. He was the vice-chancellor of the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Prior to this appointment he held several senior positions at the University of Witwatersrand,including deputy vice-chancellor and vice-principal,where he also founded the Media Studies Department. He also lectured at Rhodes University. Before Rhodes,he worked in various academic capacities at the University of Zimbabwe.
Mvuyo Tom is a South African doctor,administrator and academic,known for his tenure as the vice-chancellor of the University of Fort Hare from 2008 to 2016.
Irvy (Igle) Gledhill is a South African physicist at the University of Witwatersrand,School of Mechanical,Industrial &Aeronautical Engineering,in Johannesburg.
Zeblon Zenzele Vilakazi has been Vice Chancellor of the Wits University in Johannesburg,South Africa since 1 January 2021. Professor Vilakazi is a nuclear physicist. Prior to his promotion,he was Vice-Principal and Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Postgraduate Studies. He speaks French,German,Russian,Xhosa,Zulu,Siswati,Sesotho,Afrikaans and English.
