Makar Suntsev (born 4 October 2004) is a Finnish figure skater. Born in Russia, he is the 2024 Finnish Champion, a two-time Finnish national silver medalist (2022, 2023), and a two-time bronze medalist at the Nordic Championship bronze medalist (2023 and 2024). [1]
Suntsev was born on October 4, 2004 in Perm, Russia. He also has an older sister. At the age of five, Suntsev moved with his family to Kotka, Finland. [2] He graduated from Karhula High School before enrolling at the Aalto University in 2024 to study business. [3] [4]
When he was a young child, Suntsev's mother, Tatiana Lebedeva, worked as a figure skating coach in Perm, Russia. After Suntsev turned three, Lebedeva would begin bringing him to the rink so he could sit at the sidelines while she coached. He would eventually begin skating in 2008 at the age of four under his mother's tutelage. After relocating to Kotka, Finland, Lebedeva would get a job as a coach at the Kotkan Taitoluistelu, where Suntsev would continue to train. [5] [2]
He first debuted as a competitor on the novice level at the 2018 Nordic Championships, where he would finish fifth. [6]
Moving up to the junior level, Suntsev competed at the 2019 Finnish Junior Championships and finished fourth. He would subsequently finish fourth at the 2019 Nordic Championships and win the bronze medal at the 2019 Tallink Hotels Cup. [6]
Suntsev started the season by debuting on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, finishing twenty-fourth at 2019 JGP Poland. He would subsequently compete on the junior level at the 2019 Halloween Cup, where he placed eighth. [6]
In December, he would win the silver medal at the 2020 Finnish Junior Championships. He would then continue competing on the junior international level, placing sixth at the 2020 Mentor Toruń Cup and fifth at the 2020 Nordic Championships. [6]
During this season, Suntsev only appeared at one competition, the 2021 Tallink Hotels Cup. He would finish the event in sixth place. [6]
Suntsev began the season by competing on the 2021–22 ISU Junior Grand Prix series, finishing sixth at the 2021 JGP France and fourteenth at the 2021 JGP Slovakia. He would then make his senior international debut by competing on the 2021–22 ISU Challenger Series, placing twenty-second at the 2021 CS Finlandia Trophy, twenty-first at the 2021 CS Ice Challenge, and twentieth at the 2021 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb. Between the latter two events, Suntsev would also finish sixth at the 2021 Tallinn Trophy. [6]
In December, Suntsev would win his first senior national medal, a silver at the 2021 Finnish Championships. He would subsequently finish sixth at the 2022 Sofia Trophy, eighth at the 2022 Bellu Memorial, and sixth at the 2022 Tallink Hotels Cup. [6]
Selected to represent Finland at the 2022 World Junior Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, Suntsev would finish the event in twenty-sixth place. [6]
Suntsev started the season by competing on the 2022–23 ISU Junior Grand Prix series, finishing eleventh at 2022 JGP France and fifth at 2022 JGP Latvia. He would then go on to compete on the 2022–23 ISU Challenger Series, finishing thirteenth at the 2022 CS Nebelhorn Trophy, sixteenth at the 2022 CS Finlandia, and twenty-first at the 2022 CS Warsaw Cup. One week following the latter event, Suntsev placed fifth at the 2022 Tallinn Trophy. [6]
In mid-December, Suntsev would win his second consecutive national silver medal at the 2023 Finnish Championships. He would subsequently place twenty-sixth at the 2023 Winter World University Games, win bronze at the 2023 Nordic Championships, and finish ninth at the 2023 Tallink Hotels Cup. [6]
Suntsev would finish the season by competing at the 2023 World Junior Championships in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where he placed twenty-ninth. [6]
Suntsev began the season by the season by competing at the 2023–24 ISU Challenger Series, finishing thirteenth at the 2023 CS Lombardia Trophy and tenth at the 2023 CS Finlandia Trophy. Following a fourth-place finish at the 2023 Tirnavia Ice Cup, Suntsev was selected as a host representative to compete at the 2023 Grand Prix of Espoo. He would finish the event in twelfth place. Going on to compete at the 2023 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb, Suntsev placed seventh. [6]
In mid-December, Suntsev won the senior national title at the [[Finnish Figure Skating Championships|2024 Finnish Championships and as a result, was selected to compete at the 2024 European Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania. He would finish in twentieth place overall. [6]
One month later, Suntsev would win the bronze medal at the 2024 Nordic Championships and sixth at the 2024 Tallink Hotels Cup. [6]
Finnish national silver medalist, Valtter Virtanen, was ultimately selected as the men's singles skating representative to compete at the 2024 World Championships due to Suntsev failing to score minimum technical scores to compete at the World Championships. [7]
During the summer off-season, Suntsev moved from his hometown of Kotka to Espoo to attend university in the latter city. While he would continue being coached by his mother, Liana Ocheretna and Aleksei Saks would also begin coaching him in Vantaa, a city closer to his school. [5] [4]
He would start the season by competing on the 2024–25 ISU Challenger Series, finishing sixteenth at the 2024 CS Lombardia Trophy and fifth at the 2024 CS Budapest Trophy. Assigned to the 2024 GP Finlandia Trophy, Suntsev would come in tenth place. [6]

Valtter Virtanen is a Finnish figure skater. He is a three-time Nordic medalist and a seven-time Finnish national champion. He has competed at a total of sixteen ISU Championships, reaching the final segment on six occasions, at five European and one World Junior Championships. His best ISU Championship placement, 14th, came at the 2023 Europeans in Espoo.
Juulia Turkkila is a Finnish figure skater. Competing in ice dancing with Matthias Versluis, she is the 2023 European bronze medalist, a two-time Grand Prix of Espoo bronze medalist, 2023 CS Finlandia Trophy gold medalist, and a four-time Finnish national champion.
Jenni Saarinen is a Finnish retired competitive figure skater. She is a two-time Challenger series bronze medalist, a two-time Nordics champion, the 2018 Christmas Cup silver medalist, and the 2022 Finnish national champion. Saarinen represented Finland at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Aleksandr Selevko is an Estonian figure skater. He is the 2024 European silver medalist, a two-time ISU Challenger Series bronze medalist, the 2019 Nordics bronze medalist, and a three-time Estonian national champion (2020–22). He represented Estonia at the 2022 Winter Olympics, and is the first Estonian skater to win a medal at a senior international championship.
Emmi Peltonen is a Finnish-American figure skater. She is the 2017 FBMA Trophy champion, the 2020 Nordic silver medalist, and a three-time Finnish national champion. She has finished within the top ten at three European Championships, and represented Finland at the 2018 Winter Olympics, where she finished twentieth.
Juho Pirinen is a Finnish ice dancer. With his current partner, Yuka Orihara, he is the 2019–20 Finnish national champion and a three-time Finnish national silver medalist (2021–24).
Luc Economides is a French figure skater. He is the 2017 ISU Junior Grand Prix in Austria silver medalist, 2019 Santa Claus Cup champion, 2018 French national junior champion, and two-time French national senior medalist. He qualified to the final segment at the 2018 World Junior Championships and finished 15th overall. In 2022 he reached 19th place in the world ranking.
Luc Maierhofer is an Austrian figure skater who currently competes in the pairs discipline with Gabriella Izzo. Together, they are the 2024 Ice Challenge champions.
Eva-Lotta Kiibus is an Estonian figure skater. She is the 2020 Nebelhorn Trophy champion, a two-time Estonian national champion (2020–21), and a three-time Tallink Hotels Cup champion. Kiibus has represented Estonia at the European and World championships and finished twenty-first at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Davide Lewton Brain is a Monégasque-French figure skater who represents Monaco in men's singles. He is the 2019 Coupe du Printemps silver medalist and two-time Monégasque national champion.
Lara Naki Gutmann is an Italian figure skater. She is the 2024 Finlandia Trophy bronze medalist, a three-time ISU Challenger Series medalist, the 2020 Nordics champion, the 2019 Dragon Trophy silver medalist, the 2018 Bosphorus Cup silver medalist, and a three-time Italian national champion (2021–2023). She has reached the final segment at five ISU Championships, with a top-ten result at the 2023 and 2024 European Championships.
Nikita Maximovich Starostin is a Russian-German figure skater, who represents Germany internationally.
Arlet Levandi is an Estonian figure skater. He is the 2022 Tallink Hotels Cup champion and a two-time Estonian national silver medalist. At the junior level, he is the 2022 European Youth Olympic Festival champion, the 2021 JGP France II silver medalist, the 2021 JGP Slovenia silver medalist, and a 2020 Winter Youth Olympic champion in the team event. Levandi is the first men's singles skater from Estonia to win a Junior Grand Prix medal.
Mihhail Selevko is an Estonian figure skater. He is the 2019 Tallinn Trophy champion, the 2022 Challenge Cup silver medalist, and a three-time Estonian national champion.
Lorine Schild is a French figure skater. She is the 2022 Tallink Hotels Cup bronze medalist and the 2024 French national champion. On the junior level, she is the 2022 European Youth Olympic Festival champion.
Andreas Nordebäck is a Swedish figure skater. He is the 2022 CS Ice Challenge silver medalist and the 2022 CS Finlandia Trophy bronze medalist.
Anna Pezzetta is an Italian figure skater. She is the 2022 CS Ice Challenge champion, the 2022 Italian national silver medalist, and a two-time Italian national bronze medalist (2023–24).
Janna Jyrkinen is a Finnish figure skater. She is the 2022 CS Warsaw Cup bronze medalist, the 2022 Volvo Open Cup champion, and the 2023 Finnish national champion. She achieved a top-ten result at the 2023 European Championships, where she finished seventh.
