Marine Wing Support Group 37 (MWSG-37) was a United States Marine Corps aviation combat service support unit based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar that was composed of 4 squadrons, that provided the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and I Marine Expeditionary Force with complete airfield operation services (less air traffic control), engineer and transportation support, medical assistance, food services, security support, and other direct combat and combat service support to Aviation Combat elements. MWSG-37 was decommissioned on 15 June 2012 but due to operational requirements were reactivated on 29 November 2018. As part of the Marine Corps' Force Design initiative, MWSG-37 was again decommissioned on 17 July 2020. [1]
Provide the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing with organic and deployable combat support and combat service support which is centralized for economy of personnel and equipment.
The unit was activated on 1 July 1953 at Marine Corps Air Station Miami, Florida as Marine Wing Service Group 37 and was assigned to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. They relocated during September 1955 to Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California. On 1 April 1967 they were re-designated as Marine Wing Support Group 37.
The Group has participated in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope.[ citation needed ]
The unit relocated during October 1998 to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, through the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process.[ citation needed ]
They have participated in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom from March 2003 to present.[ citation needed ]
Marine Wing Support Group 37 deactivated on 15 June 2012.[ citation needed ] It was reactivated on 29 November 2018 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar [2] As part of the re-organization of the Corps, MWSG-37 will be de-activated by 2030.

The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing is the major west coast aviation unit of the United States Marine Corps. It is headquartered at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, in San Diego, California and provides the aviation combat element for I Marine Expeditionary Force. The wing is made up of a headquarters squadron, four flying groups, an aviation command and control group and an aviation engineering group.

Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 166 (VMM-166) was a United States Marine Corps tiltrotor squadron consisting of MV-22 Osprey transport aircraft. The squadron, known as the "SeaElk", was last based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. Activated in 1985, HMM-166 was the youngest CH-46 helicopter squadron in the Marine Corps. The squadron was redesignated as a tiltrotor squadron on 23 June 2010. The squadron was deactivated on 1 October 2021.

Marine Fighter Squadron 113 (VMF-113) was a fighter squadron of the United States Marine Corps during World War II and in the Marine Forces Reserve until 1965. Known as the "Whistling Devils", the squadron participated in aerial combat over the Marshall Islands in 1944 and took part in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. It was decommissioned on 30 April 1947 following the end of World War II but was reactivated in the Reserves a few years later only to be deactivated for the last time in 1965.

The squadron previously served as a training unit during the Vietnam War but was previously deactivated with the retirement of the HUSS from active service.
