Greater Wellington, also known as the Wellington Region, is a non-unitary region of New Zealand that occupies the southernmost part of the North Island. The region covers an area of 8,049 square kilometres (3,108 sq mi), and has a population of 547,000.
The Kapiti Coast District is a local government district of the Wellington Region in the lower North Island of New Zealand, 50 km north of Wellington City. The district is named after Kapiti Island, a prominent island 5 km offshore.
Kapiti Island is an island about 5 km (3 mi) off the west coast of the lower North Island of New Zealand. Horowhenua District is a territorial authority district on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand, administered by Horowhenua District Council. Located north of Wellington and Kapiti, it stretches from slightly north of the town of Ōtaki in the south to just south of Himatangi in the north, and from the coast to the top of the Tararua Range. It is in the Manawatū-Whanganui local government region. The name Horowhenua is Māori for landslide.

It lies 22 km (14 mi) north of Porirua and 45 km (28 mi) northeast of the Wellington CBD. The town's name comes from the Māori language and can mean "parakeet perch". Paekākāriki had a population of 1,665 at the time of the 2013 census, up 66 from the 2006 census.

Reikorangi is a rural locality on the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand's North Island. It is inland, behind Waikanae in the Akatarawa Valley of the Tararua Ranges. The Ngatiawa River and Reikorangi Stream both meet the Waikanae River in Reikorangi. Reikorangi contains a church, a monastery, and formerly contained a school, which closed in 1970 due to the declining population of the small locality.

The Kapiti Expressway is a four-lane grade-separated expressway through the Kapiti Coast, north of Wellington, New Zealand. As of February 2017, it stretches 18 km (11 mi) from Mackays Crossing north of Paekākāriki to just north of Peka Peka, bypassing the former two-lane route through Raumati South, Paraparaumu, and Waikanae. Construction of a 14 km (8.7 mi) northern extension to just north of Ōtaki began in 2017 and is due to open in late 2022. A second extension to north of Levin is due to begin construction in 2025, opening in 2029.

The Mayor of Otaki officiated over the Otaki Borough of New Zealand, which was administered by the Otaki Borough Council. The office existed from 1921 until 1989, when Otaki Borough and was amalgamated into the new Kapiti Coast District Council as part of the 1989 local government reforms. There were 10 holders of the office.
