On 29 September 1986, Robert Wellwood was elected unopposed as the first mayor of Hastings. [2] George Ellis was appointed on 21 December 1887 by the Borough Council after Wellwood resigned, [3] and then went on to win unopposed in 1888 [4] and 1889. [5] Ellis was declared re-elected on 19 December 1888 [4] and 18 December 1889, [5] respectively.

Hastings is an inland city of New Zealand and is one of the two major urban areas in Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of the North Island. The population of Hastings is 52,200, with a further 14,900 people in Havelock North and 2,120 in Clive. Hastings is about 18 kilometres inland of the coastal city of Napier. These two neighbouring cities are often called "The Bay Cities" or "The Twin Cities".
The Borough of Tunbridge Wells is a local government district with borough status in Kent, England. It takes its name from its main town, Royal Tunbridge Wells. The borough also contains the towns of Paddock Wood and Southborough, along with numerous villages and surrounding rural areas. Large parts of the borough fall within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The 2016 New Zealand local elections were triennial local elections to select local government officials and District Health Board members. Under section 10 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, a "general election of members of every local authority or community board must be held on the second Saturday in October in every third year" from the date the Act came into effect in 2001, meaning 8 October 2016.
Local elections were held in Marikina on May 9, 2016, as part of the Philippine general election. Held concurrently with the national elections, the electorate voted to elect a mayor, a vice mayor, sixteen city council members and two district representatives to congress.
