The Mayor of Waikato officiates over the Waikato District of New Zealand's North Island. [1]

Jacqui Church is the current mayor. [2] The previous mayor was Allan Sanson, a third generation farmer who had served on the council [3] since 2001 and had been mayor since 2010. His predecessor was another conservative farmer, Peter Harris, who took over the job when the first mayor, another farmer, Angus Macdonald, stood down in 2001. [4] [5] Angus Macdonald died in 2010. [6] The 2021 salary of the mayor was $148,500. [7]

Ngāruawāhia is in the Hamilton Urban Area, the fourth largest urban area in New Zealand. The location was once considered as a potential capital of New Zealand.

Roderick Alastair Macdonnell Braithwaite MBE, was a New Zealand politician. He was mayor of Hamilton from 1953 to 1959.

David Joseph Braithwaite was a New Zealand politician. He was mayor of Hamilton from 2001 to 2004.

Horotiu is a small township on the west bank of the Waikato River in the Waikato District of New Zealand. It is on the Waikato Plains 13 km (8.1 mi) north of Hamilton and 5 km (3.1 mi) south of Ngāruawāhia. From early in the 20th century it developed around a freezing works and other industries.
