The Mayor of Far North officiates over the Far North District of New Zealand's North Island. The district has been administered by a district council since 1989. [1]

History

The Far North District was formed in the 1989 local government reforms. The inaugural mayor was Millie Srhoj, who served one term from 1989 to 1992. Sue James served two terms from 1992 to 1998. [2] Yvonne Sharp was mayor from 1998 to 2007; she served three terms before being defeated by Wayne Brown. [3] Brown was challenged by former businessman Sir John Goulter in the 2010 local elections but won a second term. [4]

Former National Party Member of Parliament John Carter seve as Mayor between 2013 and 2022. [5] During the 2022 New Zealand local elections, Moko Tepania was elected as the district's first Māori mayor. [6]

The Rangitikei District Council is the local government authority for Rangitikei District in New Zealand. It is a territorial authority elected to represent the 16,300 people of Rangitikei. Since October 2013, the Mayor of Rangitikei is Andy Watson, who succeeded Robert "Chalky" Leary. The council consists of a mayor who is elected at large, and 11 councillors elected across five wards, one of whom gets chosen as deputy mayor. There are also two community boards – for Rātana and Taihape. The councillors are elected under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system in triennial elections.

Kerikeri Inlet is a settlement on the south side of the inlet of the same name in the Far North District of New Zealand. It is 10 km west of Kerikeri by road.

Jillian Marie Day is a New Zealand politician. She is the president of the New Zealand Labour Party, and was deputy mayor of Wellington from 2017 to 2019.

Craig Eldon Jepson is a right-wing New Zealand local politician who is the mayor of Kaipara District in New Zealand's Northland Region. During the 2000s, Jepson served as a spokesperson for Olivine NZ's unsuccessful attempt to convert the former coal-powered Meremere Power Station in the north Waikato, New Zealand into a waste-to-energy station. Jepson later moved to Mangawhai where he established a concrete business that was involved in local rural and urban development. In October 2022, Jepson was elected mayor of Kaipara. As mayor, Jepson attracted media coverage following his attempt to ban karakia from council proceedings, which he subsequently reversed following significant criticism from the public and fellow councillors.
