Melanie Neef (born 26 May 1970) is a British former track and field sprinter who specialised in the 400 metres. She represented her country at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics and 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She set her lifetime best of 51.18 seconds at the outdoor event. [1] [2]

Born in Scotland to German footballer Gerhardt Neef, who was playing for Rangers F.C., [3] she became involved in athletics with the City of Glasgow club. [4] Her first international medal came at the 1991 Summer Universiade where she was runner-up with the British women's 4 × 100 metres relay team. [5] She won senior gold medals with the 4 × 400 metres relay team at the 1994 European Cup and 1994 IAAF World Cup, as well as a fourth place at the 1994 European Athletics Championships. [4]

Neef took an individual silver medal at the 1994 European Cup behind Russia's Svetlana Goncharenko and returned the following year to win gold. [6] She was a finalist individually at the 1994 European Championships and came sixth for Scotland at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. Her last individual international outing was at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics, where she was fourth in her semi-final. [1]

She was a four-time national champion during her brief career, taking 400 m title outdoors at the AAA Championships in 1994 and 1995, and the national indoor title at the AAA Indoor Championships in 1995 and 1996. [7] [8]

She finished fourth in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2004 Athens Olympics, fourth in the 400 metres at the 2003 World Indoor Championships, and won a bronze medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2005 European Indoor Championships.

Vera Ivanovna Popkova was a Soviet track and field athlete who competed in the sprints. She had personal bests of 11.3 seconds for the 100 metres and 23.0 seconds for the 200 metres. Over her career, she won eight individual national titles in the sprints.

Linda Staines is a female former British track and field athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres. She represented Great Britain at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in both the 400 metres and 4 x 400 metres relay, and won a bronze medal in the 4 × 400 m relay at the 1993 World Championships. She also won four medals at the Commonwealth Games, including an individual silver medal in the 400 metres in 1990 and two relay gold medals.

Totka Nikolaeva Petrova is a retired female middle distance runner who represented Bulgaria in the 1970s and the early 1980s. She specialized in the 800 and 1500 metres, and won numerous international medals. She is still the Bulgarian 1500 metres record holder.

Antonina Yefremova is a Ukrainian sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. Yefremova received a two-year ban in 2012 for using testosterone at the 2011 World Athletics Championships.

Michael "Mike" Franks is a former American track and field athlete who competed in the 400-meter dash.

Anna Mikhaylovna Knoroz is a retired Russian hurdler who specialised in the 400 metres hurdles. She won a bronze medal in the 400 m hurdles at the 1994 European Championships, and a gold medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 1991 World Championships. Matthew Simson is a male British former shot putter. He was the gold medallist in the event at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, which he won with his career best throw of 19.49 m.

Olga Antonova is a Russian former track and field sprinter who competed for the Soviet Union. She represented her country at the World Championships in Athletics in 1983 and 1987, winning a relay medal at the latter edition. She was a bronze medallist over 200 m at the 1984 European Athletics Indoor Championships and was a two-time Soviet indoor champion over 60 metres.

Andrea Joan Caron Lynch is a British former track and field sprinter who competed mainly in the 100 metres. A two-time Olympian, the peak of her career was becoming a bronze medallist in the 100 m at the 1974 European Championships and a double silver medallist in the 100 m and 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games. Suziann Reid is an American-Jamaican former track and field sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter dash. She set a personal record of 50.74 seconds for the distance in 1999. She was a silver medalist with the American women's 4 × 400-meter relay team at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics. She was part of the World Championship team twice more, in 2001 and 2005, and helped the United States to silver at the 2002 IAAF World Cup and gold at the 2001 Goodwill Games.

Yvette Julie Wray is a female former English pentathlete, hurdler and sprinter. Born in Scraptoft, Leicestershire, she competed for Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Moscow 1980. She also represented England at the Commonwealth Games in 1978 and 1982, winning two bronze medals.

Yelena Golesheva is a Russian-born female former track and field sprinter who competed for the Soviet Union and Russia, before obtaining Belgian citizenship. She has a personal best of 51.28 seconds for the 400 metres, set on 21 June 1989. She won a bronze medal in the 400 metres at the 1992 European Indoor Championships, and a silver medal at the 1993 World Championships in the 4 × 400 metres relay.
