Helix is a genus of large, air-breathing land snails native to the western Palaearctic. It is the type genus of the family Helicidae, and one of the animal genera described by Carl Linnaeus. Members of the genus first appeared during the Miocene. Like most land snails, Helix species are hermaphroditic, and like other helicids, a courting pair will impale each other with hormone-rich love darts prior to exchanging sperm. Well-known species include Helix pomatia and Helix lucorum. Cornu aspersum, though externally similar and long classified as a member of Helix, is not closely related to Helix and belong to a different tribe of Helicinae.
Balea is a genus of small, very elongate, air-breathing land snails, sinistral terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Clausiliidae, the door snails.
Drymaeus is a large genus of medium-sized air-breathing, tropical land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscs in the subfamily Peltellinae of the family Bulimulidae.
Leiostyla is a genus of small air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Lauriidae.
Omphalotropis is a genus of minute salt marsh snails with an operculum, terrestrial gastropod mollusks in the subfamily Omphalotropidinae of the family Assimineidae.
Theba is a taxonomic genus of air-breathing land snails, medium-sized pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Helicidae, the true snails.
Monacha is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the subfamily Trochulininae Lindholm, 1927 of the family Hygromiidae, the hairy snails and their allies.
Xerocrassa is a genus of small, air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscs in the family Geomitridae.
Albinaria is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Clausiliidae, the door snails.
Schileykula is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Orculidae. All of the species and subspecies in this genus inhabit Turkey, with the exception of the subspecies Schileykula scyphus crass, which lives in Iran.
Orculella is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Orculidae. The genus Orculella occurs in the whole Mediterranean region. The richest areas in terms of species are Turkey and the Middle East, the Aegean Islands and Libya (Cyrenaica). A few species inhabit Southern Spain, Sicily and northeastern Africa.
Turanena is a genus of gastropods belonging to the family Enidae.
