Middleback Range is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the north east corner of Eyre Peninsula to the south-west of the city of Whyalla and extending from the coastline of Spencer Gulf in the east to the west side of the southern end of the Middleback Range in the west. [7]
Its boundaries were created on 26 April 2013 while its name which is ultimately derived from the mountain range of the same name reflects the use of a “long established local name.” Its boundaries were again adjusted in 2014 in association with the creation of the new locality of Cultana. Middleback Range is located within the federal Division of Grey, the state electoral district of Giles and with part of its eastern side being within the boundary of local government area of the City of Whyalla and the western side being within the Pastoral Unincorporated Area of South Australia. [3] [4] [5] [7] [11] The Lincoln Highway passes through the locality on its way from the city of Whyalla to the city of Port Lincoln. [11] [12]
The Eyre Peninsula is a triangular peninsula in South Australia. It is bounded on the east by Spencer Gulf, the west by the Great Australian Bight, and the north by the Gawler Ranges.
Iron Knob is a town in the Australian state of South Australia on the Eyre Peninsula immediately south of the Eyre Highway. At the 2006 census, Iron Knob and the surrounding area had a population of 199. The town obtained its name from its proximity to large deposits of iron ore, most notably Iron Monarch which outcropped prominently from the relatively flat, surrounding landscape.
The City of Whyalla is a local government area in South Australia, located at the north-east corner of the Eyre Peninsula. It was established in 1970, replacing the town commission, which had been running the town previously. The district is mostly industrial, with many large companies having factories in the city.
Coorabie is a town and locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about 675 kilometres (419 mi) north-west of the state capital of Adelaide. It is outside of district council boundaries, and therefore managed by the Outback Communities Authority. It is located in the west of South Australia, and includes the Wahgunyah Conservation Park. The Eyre Highway passes through the locality, although the Coorabie township is south of the highway.

Cultana is a locality on the northeastern part of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. It is much larger than the original locality, and includes the Australian Army's Cultana Training Area. It includes the former Baxter Detention Centre which operated from 2002 to 2007. It spans the Lincoln Highway and Iron Knob to Whyalla Road, as well as being bordered by the Eyre Highway east of Iron Knob.
Whyalla Barson is a suburb in South Australia located on the northern side of the city of Whyalla in the north east corner of Eyre Peninsula. It is named after Thomas Leonard Barson, superintendent of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited in Whyalla from 1933 to 1938. The suburb was first established in 2011 with revisions to boundaries occurring both in 2013 and 2014.
