The Ministry of Railway Development of Ghana was created with the core responsible to ensure and increase infrastructural growth and service delivery in Ghana's transport sector to help ease pressure on the other means of transport. The ministry is also tasked with the responsibility of ensuring quality, effective and a more secure means of traveling and transporting goods and services within Ghana and the neighboring countries. The formation of the Ministry is to ensure the rapid growth of a modern and quality rail network in Ghana and the neighboring countries. The ministry was formed by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana in February, 2017. One major reason behind the railway network is to help convey goods and services from the rural areas to the cities to increase productivity to strengthen the economy apart from being the source of transport within the country and to extend the rail lines to the neighboring countries to make trade effective between Ghana and the countries involved. [3] [4] Before the creation of this Ministry, the existing network consisted of three lines: the Western Line, the Eastern Line and the Central Line (from Huni Valley to Kotoku). These rail networks were built during the colonial period that existed at independence in 1957. [1]
Ministry of Railway Development consists of several departments and agencies. In total, the Ministry is headed by a Sector Minister, HON JOHN-PETER AMEWU, MP, [5] and each agency or department has a director as an official head. In view of this, the Ghana Railway Development Authority and Ghana Railway Company Limited are the implementing agencies of the Ministry of Railway Development. [6] [7]

Ghana Railway Company Ltd was created in 2001 under the companies code 1963(Act 179) to offer consignment, parcel and passenger services using available resources. [2]
The Ghana Railway Development Authority was formed under the Railways Act 2008,(Act 779) to boost the growth of railway systems in the country with the administration and the improvement of the railway assets.

The economy of Ghana has a diverse and rich resource base, including the manufacturing and exportation of digital technology goods, automotive and ship construction and exportation, and the exportation of diverse and rich resources such as hydrocarbons and industrial minerals.

As of 2021 census, the Accra Metropolitan District, 20.4 km2 (7.9 sq mi), had a population of 284,124 inhabitants, and the larger Greater Accra Region, 3,245 km2 (1,253 sq mi), had a population of 5,455,692 inhabitants. In common usage, the name "Accra" often refers to the territory of the Accra Metropolitan District as it existed before 2008, when it covered 199.4 km2 (77.0 sq mi). This territory has since been split into 13 local government districts: 12 independent municipal districts and the reduced Accra Metropolitan District (20.4 km2), which is the only district within the capital to be granted city status. This territory of 199.4 km2 contained 1,782,150 inhabitants at the 2021 census, and serves as the capital of Ghana, while the district under the jurisdiction of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly proper (20.4 km2) is distinguished from the rest of the capital as the "City of Accra".
Accra International Airport is an international airport in Accra, the capital of Ghana. The airport is operated by Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), which has its offices on the airport property. It is the sole international airport in Ghana.

The Government of Ghana initially responded to the virus through a nationwide disinfection and fumigation exercise which began in April 2020. In order to curb the spread of the virus, the government enforced lockdowns, aggressive contact tracing, public bans and social measures such as encouraging the wearing of face masks. By April, it began the gradual reopening of the country; lifting all lockdowns while maintaining protocols such as social distancing. Throughout the pandemic, the government partnered with the private sector in order to roll out economic reliefs and recovery programs as a result of the impact of the pandemic on Ghana's economy. The presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo began on 7 January 2017. Following the 2016 Ghanaian general elections, Nana Akufo-Addo the flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party, succeeded John Mahama as the 5th President of the Ghanaian Fourth Republic after winning by a landslide. He won a second term on 9 December 2020 in a tightly contested race against National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate and former president, John Mahama.
The Western Railway Line is a narrow gauge single track railway line from Takoradi Port to Kumasi, with branch lines at Kojokrom, which leads to Sekondi and another at Dunkwa, which leads to Awaso.
The Eastern Railway Line is a 300 km (190 mi) narrow gauge railway line from Accra Station to Kumasi, with a branch line from Achimota Railway Station to Tema.
