On December 6, 2021, MNUFC2 were named as one of 21 clubs that would field a team in the new MLS Next Pro league beginning in the 2022 season. [1] [2]

It was the second MLS All-Star Game to be played under the inter-league format. The all-star game also included a skills challenge, concerts, and other events in the days before the match.
