Carolina Core FC is an American professional soccer team that is located in High Point, North Carolina. It is an independent team and currently participates in MLS Next Pro.

History

On November 10, 2022, MLS Next Pro announced that a new independent club from North Carolina would join the league in 2024. The club will be led by Eddie Pope as its Chief Sporting Director and owned by Megan Oglesby, Matt Penley, and Mark Penley. They will play at Truist Point following planned renovations to increase the stadium's capacity to 5,000. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Carolina ended their inaugural season with 12 wins, 12 losses, and four draws with three penalty shootout victories. Head coach Roy Lassiter was relieved of his duties following the season. [6]

Roy Lee Lassiter is an American former professional soccer player. who played as a forward. He played the first few years of his professional career in Costa Rica. He returned to the United States to play in Major League Soccer when that league was launched in 1996, and from 1996 to 1999 he was one of the most prolific goal scorers in MLS. Lassiter served as the assistant coach of MLS Next Pro club Houston Dynamo 2. On Thursday, June 15, 2023, Lassiter was named Head Coach of Carolina Core FC.

Southwest Guilford High School is a secondary school in High Point, North Carolina, United States established in 1979. It serves grades nine through twelve. The school was recently renovated and expanded to add more class rooms, a media center, and a gymnasium. The new gymnasium is the largest high school gym in Guilford County. The gym is named after long time SW Guilford teacher and coach Jim Coggins.

The 2024 North Carolina FC season was the 18th season of the club's existence, and their fourth season in the USL Championship, the second division in the American soccer pyramid, after three years in the USL League One, the third division of the American soccer pyramid. North Carolina is coached by John Bradford, his sixth season with the club, and played their home games at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.

The 2025 Carolina Core FC Season is the club's second season in existence. This is the second independent club to play in a MLS Next Pro season alongside Chattanooga FC and will be joined by 3 other teams in 2026. The club is located in North Carolina, US.
