Miss Universe 1978 was the 27th Miss Universe pageant, held on 24 July 1978 at the Centro de Convenciones de Acapulco in Acapulco, Mexico. It was the first time in the pageant's history that the event was held in Mexico. Margaret Gardiner of South Africa was crowned by Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad and Tobago at the end of the event. This is the first time South Africa won the pageant.

Margaret Gardiner is a South African journalist and beauty queen who was the winner of the Miss Universe 1978, the first South African woman to win the Miss Universe title. She was 18 years old when she won the pageant. After the three semi-final competitions, she entered the five finalists in fourth place, but ended up winning the pageant after answering the final question.

Miss World 1999, the 49th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 4 December 1999 at the Olympia Hall in London, United Kingdom. The pageant was hosted by Ulrika Jonsson and model Melanie Sykes. The 1999 pageant attracted 94 delegates from all over the world. The 1999 pageant also marked the first time that Scotland and Wales fielded their respective delegates. At the end of the event, 20-year-old Miss India Yukta Mookhey went on to win the Miss World 1999 crown. The preliminary swimsuit competition was held in Malta. She was crowned by her predecessor Linor Abargil of Israel. Protesters gathered outside the event, decrying it as a "sexist cattle market".

Miss World 1997, the 47th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 22 November 1997 at the Plantation Club Seychelles in Baie Lazare, Seychelles. 86 delegates competed for the coveted crown. At the end of the event, India's Diana Hayden came out victorious. Hayden went on to win the Miss World 1997 pageant at the age of 24 crowned by Miss World 1996, Irene Skliva. It was the first time the Miss World pageant was held in the Seychelles. She became the third Indian woman to win Miss World since Reita Faria in 1966 and Aishwarya Rai in 1994.

Miss Universe 1977 was the 26th Miss Universe pageant, held on 16 July 1977 at the National Theater in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It was the first time in the pageant's history that the event was held in Dominican Republic. Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad and Tobago was crowned by Rina Messinger of Israel at the end of the event. This was the first time a Black woman won Miss Universe. African American singer Dionne Warwick, one of the 12 judges, burst into tears when Commissiong won.

Ada Cecille Perkins Flores was a Puerto Rican model and beauty pageant titleholder who represented Puerto Rico at the Miss Universe 1978 pageant.

Miss World 1974 was the 24th edition of the Miss World pageant, held on 22 November 1974 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom. The event was viewed by an estimated 30 million people, and was a "Wide World Special" on the ABC Television Network.

Miss Colombia 2004, the 70th Miss Colombia pageant, was held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, on November 12, 2004, after three weeks of events. The winner of the pageant was Adriana Tarud, Miss Atlántico.

Miss República Dominicana 1982 was held on June 18, 1981. There were 28 candidates who competed for the national crown. The winner represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss Universe 1982. The Señorita República Dominicana Mundo will enter Miss World 1982. The Señorita República Dominicana Café will enter Reinado Internacional del Café 1982. This year was the only time that country won Miss World.

Nuestra Belleza México 1998 was the 5th Nuestra Belleza México pageant. The contest was held for the second consecutive time at the Salon Teotihuacan of the Centro Internacional de Convenciones Acapulco of Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico on September 19, 1998. Thirty-two contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, featuring the first back to back victories in Nuestra Belleza Mexico history: Silvia Salgado from Nuevo León was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Katty Fuentes, also from Nuevo León. Salgado competed at Miss Universe 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago where she was a Semi-finalist in the Top 10. She was the second Neoleonesa to win this title.

Nuestra Belleza México 2001, the 8th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the Aeropuerto Internacional "Lic. Adolfo López Mateos" of Toluca, Estado de México, Mexico on September 28, 2001. Forty-seven contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Ericka Cruz from Yucatán, who later competed in Miss Universe 2002 in Puerto Rico. Cruz was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Jacqueline Bracamontes. She is the first and only Yucateca and the third winner of foreign descent to win this Title.

Simplemente María is a Mexican telenovela produced by Valentín Pimstein for Televisa in 1989.

The Miss Perú 1994 pageant was held on April 10, 1994. That year, 24 candidates were competing for the national crown. The chosen winner represented Peru at the Miss Universe 1994. The rest of the finalists would enter in different pageants.
