Miss Universe 1999, the 48th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 26 May 1999 at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre in Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago. Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana was crowned by Wendy Fitzwilliam of Trinidad and Tobago at the end of the event. Kwelagobe became the first Miss Universe to come from a debuting nation since 1958. Eighty-four contestants competed in this year.

Miss Universe is an annual international beauty pageant that is run by the American-based Miss Universe Organization. It airs in more than 190 countries worldwide and seen by more than half a billion people annually. Along with Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth, Miss Universe is one of the Big Four international beauty pageants.

Mpule Kwelagobe Botswana model

Mpule Keneilwe Kwelagobe is a Botswanan investor, businesswoman, model, beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe 1999 and current President of Miss Universe Botswana Organization. She was the first black African woman to win an international beauty pageant title and the first debuting nation in nearly four decades. Kwelagobe has been recognized as a human health rights activist, especially for her fight against HIV/AIDS and advocacy for youth and women to have greater access to sexual reproductive education and services. She is the co-founder of QuesS Capital LLC, a private equity firm with investments in financial services, renewable energy and agriculture in Africa and South Asia.

Angola country in Africa

Angola, officially the Republic of Angola, is a west-coast country of south-central Africa. It is the seventh-largest country in Africa, bordered by Namibia to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Zambia to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Angola has an exclave province, the province of Cabinda that borders the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The capital and largest city of Angola is Luanda.

Aruba is an island and a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the southern Caribbean Sea, located about 1,600 kilometres (990 mi) west of the main part of the Lesser Antilles and 29 kilometres (18 mi) north of the coast of Venezuela. It measures 32 kilometres (20 mi) long from its northwestern to its southeastern end and 10 kilometres (6 mi) across at its widest point. Together with Bonaire and Curaçao, Aruba forms a group referred to as the ABC islands. Collectively, Aruba and the other Dutch islands in the Caribbean are often called the Dutch Caribbean.

Guam is an unincorporated and organized territory of the United States in Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean. It is the easternmost point and territory of the United States, along with the Northern Mariana Islands. The capital city of Guam is Hagåtña and the most populous city is Dededo. The inhabitants of Guam are called Guamanians, and they are American citizens by birth. Indigenous Guamanians are the Chamorros, who are related to other Austronesian natives of Eastern Indonesia, the Philippines, and Taiwan. Guam has been a member of the Pacific Community since 1983.

The grand coronation night took place on March 7 at the Araneta Coliseum, and was broadcast by GMA Network and GMA's international channel, GMA Pinoy TV. Only 23 ladies competed for the 3 major crowns due to the disqualification of one candidate.

Binibining Pilipinas 2010, the 47th annual Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), took place on March 6 at the Araneta Coliseum, and was broadcast by GMA Network and GMA's international channel, GMA Pinoy TV. The four-hour-long coronation night was hosted by Dingdong Dantes and Carla Abellana. There were 24 ladies who competed in the event.

Binibining Pilipinas 2012, the 49th edition of Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), was held on April 15, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines. Thirty ladies competed for the three titles: Miss Universe Philippines, Binibining Pilipinas International, Binibining Pilipinas Tourism. The Miss Universe Philippines winner will compete in Miss Universe 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada; Binibining Pilipinas International will compete in Miss International 2012 in Okinawa, Japan, and Binibining Pilipinas Tourism will compete in Miss Tourism Queen International 2012 in China. The 1st runner-up is appointed to represent the country at Miss Supranational 2012 in Sopot, Poland wherein she placed as 3rd Runner- up.

Binibining Pilipinas 2013, the 50th edition of Binibining Pilipinas pageant billed as Binibining Pilipinas Gold, was held on April 14, 2013 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines. Fifty candidates participated in the 2013 pageant, which was aired by ABS-CBN and The Filipino Channel.

Binibining Pilipinas 2000 was the 37th edition of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) which took place on Feb. 26, 2000 at the Araneta Coliseum, with a delayed broadcast by GMA Network.

Binibining Pilipinas 2015

Binibining Pilipinas 2015, the 52nd edition of Binibining Pilipinas, was held on March 15, 2015 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines. At the end of the pageant Mary Jean Lastimosa crowned Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as Miss Universe Philippines 2015 while Bianca Guidotti crowned Janicel Jaranilla Lubina as Binibining Pilipinas International 2015. The pageant also awarded three other titles to participate in minor international beauty pageants in which Kris Tiffany Janson crowned Christi Lynn Landrito McGarry as Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2015, Yvethe Marie Santiago crowned Rogelie Ardosa Catacutan as Binibining Pilipinas Supranataional 2015, and Parul Shah crowned Ann Lorraine Maniego Colis as Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2015. The first runner-up was Hannah Ruth Lulu Sison, 26, a multi-media artist/professor from Oas, Albay, while Kimverlyn Ofalsa Suiza, 26, a TV segment producer from Marikina City, was named second runner-up.

Miss Universe Trinidad & Tobago is a beauty pageant held annually since 1963, a year after Trinidad & Tobago's independence from the United Kingdom. The contest is meant to select a suitable delegate from both islands to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.

Binibining Pilipinas 2016, the 53rd edition of Binibining Pilipinas, was held on April 17, 2016 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines. There were six titles awarded to participate internationally and two runner-up positions. Pia Wurtzbach crowned Maria Mika Maxine Perez Medina as Miss Universe Philippines 2016 while Janicel Lubina crowned Kylie Fausto Verzosa as Binibining Pilipinas International 2016. The pageant also awarded four other titles to participate in minor international beauty pageants in which Christi McGarry crowned Jennifer Alviar Hammond as Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2016, Rogelie Catacutan crowned Joanna Louise Deapera Eden as Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2016, Parul Shah crowned Nicole Ignacio Cordoves as Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2016, and Ann Lorraine Colis crowned Nichole Marie Ramos Manalo as Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2016 as their successors at the end of the event. Completing the court were, Angelica Recto Alita, 20, first runner-up; and Jehza Mae Sotillo Huelar, 20, second runner-up.

Binibining Pilipinas 2018 was the 55th edition of Binibining Pilipinas, that took place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines on March 18, 2018.

Binibining Pilipinas 2019 will be the 56th edition of Binibining Pilipinas that will take place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines on June 9, 2019. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Miss International 2018 first runner-up Ahtisa Manalo will crown their successors at the end of the event who will represent Philippines in two of the Big Four international beauty pageants in Miss Universe 2019 and Miss International 2019, respectively.
