Miss Universe Belize is a national beauty pageant in Belize to select the country's representative for the Miss Universe pageant.

History

In the early days of Miss Universe Belize (then known as Miss Belize), one pageant was held yearly to select a representative for the Miss Universe pageant, with either the winner or a runner-up representing Belize at Miss World.[ citation needed ] Recently[ when? ], there has been an emergence of different pageants to select representatives for different international pageants as opposed to just one pageant with several winners.[ citation needed ]

2008

Miss Universe Belize 2008 Tanisha Vernon spoke out against "Pageants Belize, owner, and only employee – Margaret Johnson". [1] Her crown was then revoked in July 2008. [2]

2016

In 2016, Opal Enriquez took over the Miss Belize franchise. [3]

2018—2022

In 2018, Romeo Escobar, a three-time Emmy award-winning producer took over the franchise of Miss Universe in Belize. [4] He left the franchise in 2023, citing disagreements with the Miss Universe Organization owners over how franchises should run. [5]

2023—Present

In 2023, Miss Universe Belize 2019, Destinee Arnold took over the Miss Belize franchise. The pageant was renamed to "Miss Universe Belize". The franchise is currently under the House of Crowns by Team Destination organization.

In 1975, the Señorita Panamá name was used for the first time, reverting to Miss Panama in 1976. In 1982, Señorita Panamá was created by RPC Channel 4 as an alternative to send its winners to the Miss World contest in London. These pageants, along with smaller pageants such as Miss International Panamá and Miss World Panamá celebrated to select delegates for international representations.

Miss South Africa is a national beauty pageant in South Africa that selects South African representatives to compete in one of the Big Four international beauty pageants Miss Universe, and also selects another representative to participate in Sub-major international pageant Miss Supranational. The Miss South Africa organisation resorted to a contemporary format in selecting representatives which was inaugurated in 2018. Following their newer method, both a Miss World South Africa and a Miss Universe South Africa were selected as representatives. From 2021 onwards, the winner of Miss South Africa will be competing in Miss Universe, and Miss Supranational. The current Miss South Africa 2023 is Natasha Joubert. On May 11, 2023, the Miss South Africa Organisation has lost its license as a Miss World licensee holder to Carol Bouwer Productions, which has taken over the license of Miss World South Africa pageant.

Miss Universe Slovenskej Republiky or Miss Slovak Republic was an annual beauty pageant held in Slovak Republic to select the country's representative to the Miss Universe pageant from 1994 to 2022.

Reinas de Costa Rica is a national beauty pageant in Costa Rica that selects representatives to the Miss World and Miss International pageant. After the Miss Costa Rica pageant stopped sending contestants to the Miss World and Miss International pageants in 2006, the franchise was acquired by the Reinas de Costa Rica organization presided by Alan Aleman. However, after two years of absence in the Miss World pageant in 2017-2018, the organization eventually lost the franchise to the newly established contest, Concurso Nacional de Belleza de Costa Rica in 2019. The organization also lost the Miss Earth franchise to Jose Vásconez in 2016.

Miss World 2015, the 65th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 19 December 2015 at the outdoor arena of the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China. 114 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. Rolene Strauss of South Africa crowned her successor Mireia Lalaguna of Spain at the end of the event. It was the first time in the history of Miss World that Spain won the pageant.

The Miss Queen Korea is a national beauty pageant responsible for selecting South Korea's representative to the Miss Universe and Miss World pageant.

The Miss Malta Universe or Miss Universe Malta (MUM) is a beauty pageant competition. The contest selects the country representative for Miss Universe. The Maltese titleholder for 2023 is Ella Portelli of St. Julian's and will represent Malta at Miss Universe 2023, to be held in El Salvador.
