Monsters in the Closet is the fourth studio album by American rock band Mayday Parade. Recorded between March and June 2013, the album was produced by Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount. It was released in October 2013 by Fearless and sold 30,000 copies in its first week.
After releasing their third album, Mayday Parade (2011), through major label ILG, [4] Mayday Parade would re-sign with independent label Fearless in January 2013. [5] Drummer Jake Bundrick explained that the label "has always been family to us and we're really happy to have that again. Exciting times!" [6] Discussing new material, bassist Jeremy Lenzo described the songs as "ha[ving] a little bit of everything". [7] "Ghosts", according to Lenzo, deals with "your inner demons, and it portrays that in a literal sense by referring to them as ghosts and how they are always with you." [7]
Also in January, the band started recording. [6] On March 23, the band posted a studio update. [8] On April 4, the band posted another studio video, this time with Lenzo discussing his bass parts. [9] Between April 11 and May 12, the band went on the Spring Fever Tour supporting All Time Low and Pierce the Veil. [10] On June 27, it was announced that recording had finished. [11] On July 11, the band released a third studio update. [12] A week later, the band posted a fourth studio update video. [13]
Monsters in the Closet was announced on July 29, 2013 for release, and the cover art was revealed. [14] On August 23, the track listing was revealed. [15] "Ghosts" was released as a single on August 27. [16] "Girls" was released as a single on September 17. [17] On September 18, a lyric video was released for "Girls". [18] An album preview was posted via Buzznet on October 1. [19] On October 7, Monsters in the Closet was made available for streaming via Billboard, [20] and was released through Fearless, a day later. [14] [nb 1] The album was released on vinyl the same day. [21] On October 14, a lyric video was released for "12 Through 15". [22] In October and November, [23] the band headlined the Glamour Kills tour [14] with support from Man Overboard, Cartel, and Stages & Stereos. [24]
On November 14, a music video was released for "Ghosts" via Entertainment Tonight. [25] The video was directed by Brant Kantor. [26] The video takes place in a haunted bed and breakfast. [27] Zach Seemayer of Entertainment Tonight noted that the video includes "elements of horror, fantasy and melodrama, and turning them on their head in a funny, rollicking pop-punk video". [25] He also mentioned that the video had "great production value and innovative concepts." [25] In January and February, the band went on a tour of the UK [28] and Europe, titled Monsters Overseas. [29] They were supported by Man Overboard, Divided by Friday and Decade. [28] This was followed by a tour of South Asia in March. [30] On April 28, a music video was released for "Hold Onto Me". [31] The video was directed by Dan Centrone. [32]
In late April and May, the band went on the So Devastating, It's Unnatural tour with support from We Are the in Crowd, Transit and Divided by Friday. [33] On May 26, "Worth a Thousand Words" was made available for streaming through PureVolume, "Stuck in Remission" was made available for streaming through PropertyofZack, and "Hear the Sound" was made available for streaming through AbsolutePunk. [34] A deluxe edition of the album was released on May 27 featuring the aforementioned three tracks. [35] Lenzo explained that since the group were "so happy" with the reception for the album, they "decided to [...] [include] a few songs that didn't make it on the [original] release so that you could hear everything we were working on, and see other directions the album could have gone." [35] The band went on the 2014 edition of Warped Tour. [36] In October and November, the band went on the Honeymoon Tour [37] with support from Tonight Alive, Major League and PVRIS. [38]

Monsters in the Closet debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, [43] selling 30,000 copies and becoming the band's best debut week. [44] The album also charted at number 4 on Alternative Albums, [45] number 10 on Digital Albums, [46] number 2 on Independent Albums, [47] and number 4 on the Rock Albums charts in the U.S. [48] "Ghosts" charted at number 16 on the UK Independent Singles Breakers Chart, [49] number 35 on the UK Rock & Metal Singles Chart, [50] and number 46 on the Rock Songs chart in the U.S. [51]

The Almost is an American rock band from Clearwater, Florida, fronted by Underoath drummer and vocalist Aaron Gillespie. Formed in 2005 as a solo project by Gillespie, the band currently includes guitarist Jay Vilardi, bassist Jon Thompson, and drummer JJ Revell. They released three albums via Tooth & Nail Records: their debut Southern Weather (2007), Monster Monster (2009), and Fear Inside Our Bones (2013). Following a hiatus in 2015, Gillespie revived the project and released a fourth album, Fear Caller, in 2019 through Fearless Records.
Fearless Records is an American independent record label that was founded in 1994. Fearless is based in Culver City, California, and is best known for its early pop punk moments captured in the Fearless Flush Sampler and Punk Bites releases, as well as additional releases by bands such as Bigwig and Dynamite Boy; and later Sugarcult; Plain White T's; The Aquabats; Amely; and post-hardcore releases by At the Drive-In and Anatomy of a Ghost. However, the label has experimented with different styles in recent years. Acts such as Blessthefall, The Word Alive, Ice Nine Kills, Mayday Parade, Pierce The Veil, Starset, The Pretty Reckless, Underoath and The Color Morale have showcased post-hardcore, metalcore, hard rock and alternative rock bands that have emerged in recent years. Fearless Records' releases were distributed in the US by RED Distribution, but after Concord Music Group's purchase of the label in 2015, it is now distributed by Universal Music Group worldwide.
Mayday Parade is an American rock band from Tallahassee, Florida. Formed in 2005, the band was a result of a merger between two local Tallahassee bands, Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment. Their debut EP Tales Told by Dead Friends, was released in 2006, and sold over 50,000 copies without any label support. In July 2007, Mayday Parade released their debut album A Lesson in Romantics. Having been signed to Fearless Records since 2006, the band also signed onto a major label with Atlantic Records in 2009. Their second studio album, Anywhere but Here was released in October 2009 and their third album, entitled Mayday Parade, was released in October 2011. Mayday Parade's fourth album, titled Monsters in the Closet, was released in October 2013. Their fifth album, titled Black Lines, was released October 2015. In April 2018, the band signed to Rise Records and released their sixth studio album Sunnyland on June 15, 2018. Their seventh studio album, What It Means to Fall Apart, was released on November 19, 2021.
Tales Told by Dead Friends is the debut EP by American rock band Mayday Parade, released on June 13, 2006. The group resulted from the merger of local acts Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment. With their line-up solidified, the first two songs they wrote together were "When I Get Home, You're So Dead" and "Three Cheers for Five Years". Soon afterwards, they recorded an EP, Tales Told by Dead Friends, with Lee Dyess. The group followed Warped Tour and sold copies to people in line. By the end of summer, the band had sold 10,000 copies of the EP. This attracted the attention of Fearless Records, who would sign the band in late August. The group went on tour from September to November, before the EP was reissued by Fearless.

The band released an EP, Tales Told by Dead Friends, in June 2006, which they sold to people by following the 2006 edition of Warped Tour and offering copies; it eventually sold 10,000 copies. The band signed to Fearless Records in August. A Lesson in Romantics was recorded in early 2007 with producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount. Vocalist/guitarist Jason Lancaster left the band in March 2007 citing a lack of writing credit on the band's releases. Prior to the release of A Lesson in Romantics, "Black Cat", "When I Get Home, You're So Dead", and "Jamie All Over" were made available for streaming. After the album's release, the band participated in the 2007 edition of Warped Tour.
Every Avenue is an American pop-punk band from Marysville, Michigan, formed in 2003. the groups most prevalent line-up consisted of David Ryan Strauchman, Joshua Randall Withenshaw, James Francis Deeghan, Matthew Franklin Black and Michael Joseph Govaere. The band is signed to Fearless Records and released their debut album, Shh, Just Go with it in 2008. It was followed up by their second album, Picture Perfect, in 2009, which reached No. 136 on Billboard 200. In 2011, the band's latest and third album titled Bad Habits was released, and it peaked at No. 63 on Billboard 200, being the band's highest chart position. Every Avenue has toured with bands such as Mayday Parade, All Time Low, The Maine on The Compromising of Integrity, Morality and Principles in Exchange for Money Tour, Boys Like Girls, and have appeared on the Vans Warped Tour. As of 2023, Strauchman is the soul member of Every Avenue.
The Summer Set is a pop rock band from Scottsdale, Arizona. The band consists of lead vocalist Brian Logan Dales, guitarist John Gomez, bass guitarist Stephen Gomez, and drummer Jess Bowen. The Summer Set was signed to The Militia Group in 2008, Razor & Tie from 2009 to 2011, and to Fearless Records from 2012 to 2017. The Summer Set released four full-length studio albums: Love Like This (2009), Everything's Fine (2011), Legendary (2013), and Stories for Monday (2016). The band toured with numerous musical acts, including the Cab, We Are the In Crowd, Mayday Parade, Sleeping with Sirens, All Time Low, the Downtown Fiction, and Action Item. The band was on hiatus from October 2017 to August 2021.

Anywhere but Here is the second studio album by American rock band Mayday Parade, released on October 6, 2009. The band started writing Anywhere but Here in January 2009, working with several co-writers. The band signed to Atlantic in March 2009. Later that month, the band started recording at House of Loud in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. The album's production was handled by producer David Bendeth. "The Silence" was released as a single in August and was followed by Anywhere but Here, released through Fearless Records, a couple of months later. "Kids in Love" was released as a single in May 2010. "Anywhere but Here" was released as a single in September.

This is the last album the band released on Fearless Records.
Better Off is an American rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 2011 under the name Friends. They changed their name in early 2013 to Better Off due to another group sharing the Friends name. They have released two albums, (I Think) I'm Leaving (2013) and Milk (2015), the latter of which charted on the Heatseekers Albums and Independent Albums charts. In March 2016, while on tour with Mayday Parade and The Maine, it was announced that the group would be dropping off tour and "going silent for a while" following sexual assault and abuse allegations against the bands former touring bassist, David Hobbs. During the bands hiatus and dissolvement of all relations with the former member, Better Off apologized to those involved with the situation and continued to quietly create and release their single "Bad Habit" on April 25, 2018.
