Mount Charles (electoral division)

Mount Charles (Cornish: Mont Charlys) [1] was an electoral division of Cornwall in the United Kingdom which returned one member to sit on Cornwall Council between 2009 and 2021. It was abolished at the 2021 local elections, being absorbed into St Austell Poltair and Mount Charles, St Austell Central and Gover, and St Austell Bethel and Holmbush

There was also a Mount Charles division on Restormel Borough Council from 2003, [2] and on Cornwall County Council from 2005, [3] until both were abolished in 2009.

Extent

Mount Charles covered the south of the town of St Austell, including the suburb of Mount Charles. [5]

The division was technically abolished in boundary changes at the 2013 election, but this had little effect on the ward. Both before and after the boundary changes, it covered 142 hectares in total. [5] [6]

Restormel

Restormel was a borough of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom, one of the six administrative divisions that made up the county. Its council was based in St Austell ; its other towns included Newquay.

Cornwall Council in England, UK, was established in 2009 and is elected every four years. From 1973 to 2005 elections were for Cornwall County Council, with the first election for the new unitary Cornwall Council held in June 2009. This election saw 123 members elected, replacing the previous 82 councillors on Cornwall County Council and the 249 on the six district and borough councils. In June 2013 the Local Government Boundary Commission for England announced a public consultation on its proposal that Cornwall Council should have 87 councillors in future.

Restormel was a non-metropolitan district in Cornwall, England. It was abolished on 1 April 2009 and replaced by Cornwall Council.
