Nuttallochiton is a genus of chitons; [1] the only one to have paired rather than fused gonads. [2]
There are three species: [1]
Chitons are marine molluscs of varying size in the class Polyplacophora, formerly known as Amphineura. About 940 extant and 430 fossil species are recognized.
Monoplacophora, meaning "bearing one plate", is a polyphyletic superclass of molluscs with a cap-like shell now living at the bottom of the deep sea. Extant representatives were not recognized as such until 1952; previously they were known only from the fossil record, and were previously thought to have become extinct over 380 million years ago.
Henry Augustus Pilsbry was an American biologist, malacologist and carcinologist, among other areas of study. He was a dominant presence in many fields of invertebrate taxonomy for the better part of a century. For much of his career, his authority with respect to the classification of certain substantial groups of organisms was unchallenged: barnacles, chitons, North American terrestrial mollusks, and others.
Charopidae is a taxonomic family of small air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Punctoidea.
Onithochiton neglectus neglectus is a subspecies of chiton in the family Chitonidae. This subspecies is endemic to New Zealand, being mostly found at the East Coast of the North Island and the South Island. O. neglectus neglectus is a brooding chiton, which means that the eggs develop attached to the body of females.
Acanthochitona is a genus of chitons in the family Acanthochitonidae, of worldwide distribution.
Notoplax is a genus of chitons in the family Acanthochitonidae.
Lamellaria is a genus of small slug-like sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the family Velutinidae.
Ceratosoma is a genus of sea slugs, dorid nudibranchs, shell-less marine gastropod mollusks in the family Chromodorididae.
Acanthopleura granulata, common name the West Indian fuzzy chiton, is a medium-sized tropical species of chiton. This type of chiton’s activity does not depend on spring-neap oscillations leading to lower locomotion loss. Its morphology is different from usual chitons as it has a fifth valve, which is split into halves.
Fossarina rimata is a species of small sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Trochidae, the top snails.
Bellamya is a genus of freshwater snails with a gill and an operculum, aquatic gastropod mollusks in the family Viviparidae.
Chaetopleura is a genus of chitons in the family Chaetopleuridae. The species within this genus are marine molluscs.
Coelotrochus polychromus is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Trochidae, the top snails.
Mopaliidae is a family of marine molluscs in the class Polyplacophora.
Martialia hyadesii is a species of squid commonly known as the sevenstar flying squid.
Tonicia is a genus of chitons in the family Chitonidae. The genus was recently restricted to include only 12 New World species, with the more species-rich and exclusively Old World subgenus Lucilina Dall, 1882, being elevated to a separate genus. Of these 12, ten species are found in the eastern Pacific, one in the Magellan province and one in the Caribbean Sea . However, a study published in 2019 which used molecular systematics to compare the eastern Pacific Tonicia species suggested that there are only 9 extant species in the eastern Pacific.
Cantharidus festivus is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Trochidae, the top snails.
Micrelenchus tessellatus is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Trochidae, the top snails.
Acanthodoris vatheleti is a species of sea slug, a dorid nudibranch, a shell-less marine gastropod mollusc in the family Onchidorididae.
