Oocephala is a genus of plants in the family Asteraceae, native to Africa. The name means "egghead", referring to the egg-shaped capitulum, which distinguishes the genus from its close relative Polydora . [2] Some species were formerly placed in the genus Vernonia . [3] [2]

In 1999, Robinson described two Oocephala species: O. agrianthoides and O. stenocephala. [3] In 2014, Robinson and Skvarla added two more species: O. centauroides and O. staehelinoides. [2]
