The Western Naval Command (abbreviated COMWEST) is a naval military command of the Pakistan Navy held by the Commander, West, a senior flag officer of Rear Admiral. COMWEST was a type commander post and now has been fully integrated to an Admin Authority post reporting directly to VCNS at NHQ. Its units and establishments are mainly scattered across the province of Balochistan, and has an approximate area of 700 miles. Its headquarters is at PNS Akram in Gwadar.

The Western Command mandates an area of responsibility of the western contingent of the country and to maintain the efficiency of the command many bases and military establishments have been placed under the COMWEST. Establishments and units include PNS Akram, the headquarters at Gwadar [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] which is also a depot for detachments; PNS Makran, an airbase at Pasni; a naval base at Jiwani; and the 3rd Marine Battalion consisting of 800 marines. COMWEST command provides logistic and administrative support as well as security to the naval station at Turbat, which is under development. COMWEST is also responsible for the security of the Gwadar port.

Admiral Zafar Mahmood AbbasiNI(M) HI(M) SI(M) BJSN is a retired four-star admiral of the Pakistan Navy who served as the 16th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of Pakistan Navy from 7 October 2017 until 7 October 2020.

Military exercises are conducted by the Pakistan Armed Forces to increase combat readiness, and to identify problems in logistics, training, and current military doctrine. They also test the ability of units to work together. Lastly, they act as a visible expression of military might, which acts as a deterrent to potential enemy action. An important component of each exercise is the after-action assessment. Since 1989 the four branches services have increasingly begun coordinated exercises.

It is namesake in the honor and in memory of Admiral Afzal Rahman Khan, and is the first naval base to be established on the Makran Coast of Balochistan.

Rear Admiral (R) Muhammad Moazzam IlyasHI(M) SI(M) is a retired Two Star Admiral and a flag officer from the Pakistan Navy and his last appointment was Director General Joint Warfare and Training at Joint Staff Headquarters (JSHQ).

Vice Admiral (R) Zahid Ilyas is a Retired Three Star Admiral and a flag officer from the Pakistan Navy. His Last appointment was of Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, DCNS-T&P at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, he took the office as Head of Trainning and Personnel branch of Pakistan Navy. Prior to assuming Special Service Group in 2021 his previous assignments include commanding officer PNS Babur and PNS Zulfiquar. He was also appointed to Pakistan Naval Academy as a commanding officer.

Commander, Pakistan Fleet (COMPAK) is a formal title in the Pakistan Navy to denote the head as the commander of Pakistan Fleet Command with duties sanctioned by the navy for fleet support, progressive transition of the fleet, and ensuring effectiveness of the force. The COMPAK is also assigned with responsibilities to ensure combat and staff capabilities of the fleet such as deployment of the forces, in addition to ensure equipment capacities designed to improve "operational readiness".

It is tasked with conducting defensive measures for maintaining and operating ports, harbour, and ground-based air defence of the navy, in addition to providing logistics support to naval fleet, and the Maritime Security Agency (MSA) units, a coastal guard branch of the navy.
